wideband O2 placement question?

I live in nyc and have scaped my downpipe a bunch of times on nyc's horrible roads. I had a O2 bung welded on the bottom section of the downpipe for a wideband O2. I was thinking about installing my narrowband in the bottom O2 bung in case bottom out and it gets damaged it would be cheaper to replace than a wideband O2. And using the O2 bung on the rear manifold for my wideband O2. What do you guys think?

My main concern is that on my AEM kit it says it is better to instal the wideband 18 inches from the manifolds to increase sensor life and resolution. What do you guys think? Is that true with our motors or areexhaust gasses not hot enough to damage the sensor?
 


replacement O2 sensors arent much more then replacement narrow band sensors... and for the 20-30 price diff, i would rather loose my wide band then loose my narrow band while driving and have the car go into limp mod.... if your modd'd and did all your tuning for closed loop then if it goes to read off the VE in limp mod and your not tuned there... you have a lot more damage on your hands then a bad wide band.

If your worried about the sensor, have a piece of steel welded under the car to protect it. like a skid plate! but i think there should be space between the fire wall and the engine cradle.
