Why is my cruise control not working?

I got on the freeway and set my crusie control and everything was fine. Then I some guy got on my a$$ (I was doing 75 mph) so I got over and so did he so I "punched" the throttle and my cruise did not work after that.

I tried to set it a few times after that and after my car sat for hours. I checked the 10amp fuse in the glove box, it's okay, and that's all I can think of.

Just a side note, not sure if ya'll have this but whenever my cruise would engage I could hear some solenoid near the firewall click on. Was that bad? Did it finally break? Or does GM put loud solenoids in? It did this for years, but no problems.

Please help, I'm driving to Chicago next weekend and dread not having cruise control. I'm wondering if it's in the wand itself.

What year car do you have?
I have a 2000 GTP.
When my cruise would not work, it turned out to be the third brake light bulb/s.
Have you checked the connection of the cable to the throttle body?

same thing here,,,my cruise stopped I looked all over hell to figure out why
then I noticed 1 of my brake lights were out, so I replaced the bulb and cruise was back to working

Wow guys, I guess I'll check the brake light after work and see, LOL.

I hope ya'll are right, I'll follow-up.

iroc2: "come stop by the south side so you can see me car. i can set up a big cruise " what does this mean?

KeithGTP03: "Brake switch"?

Like mentioned could be a bulb or brake switch, although it's doubtful that they kicked out that easily.

The cruise module on the firewall isn't typically loud, well...I can't say that I've ever heard one.

Check where the cruise cable attaches to the throttle body. If that clip broke, then it won't be able to work the throttle.

Allright I paid a shop to diagnose it and they said it was the cruise control module which is around $330. They wanted $580 including the diagnosing fee to fix it. yeah right.

Could I assume it really is the module and attempt to fix it myself. Maybe go to the junkyard and cut one off. Anyone ever changed one of these?

I can check the throttle cables but it was a reputable place (Fire$tone).

The problem is solved. I bought a $45 junkyard cruise control module off of a Grand AM and everything works fine. Keep in mind Impala, Monte Carlo, Intrigue, Buicks, etc. have similiar parts. I replaced it myself in 15 minutes. The yellow cloth cable broke. Thanks for all the help.
