so, im driving along yesterday and get pulled over for a brake light out. cop tells me to turn off the car. gave me repair order for the light, which is fine, yet when i go to start it back up it begins to start make a knocking sound. of course im like what the s**t, then it cuts off. so, after multiple tries it starts back and i put it home. i just got it 2 weeks ago. 01 park avenue. 1.8 slp rockers, 180 tstat, pacesetters, gen V, intake, 3.4 pulley. fresh AL 605's. just got the oil changed when i got the car.

this morning the oil light came on, but the level is full. why me?

Not that it's the old owners fault or anything but I'd never buy a modded vehicle without knowing everything about before hand. Like I'd only buy one if my friend owned it or something.

When these motors spin a bearing there is never a warning, you could keep the best care ever of the motor but when it give up on life you are lef scratching your head.

like 5 said when it happens theres no rhyme or reason. unless you were low on oil. dont seem to be the case this time.

With similar mods to your I think that 3.4" pulley on a gen 5 might have been too small. What kind of knock were you seeing and what exhaust mods does the car have?

My buddy who has rockers, powerlog/3 inch down pipe, gen 5 on a 3.6" pulley, 42# injectors, north star TB, and zzp canned tune sees around 8 degrees of knock on a 3.6" pulley/gen 5, now every car is different, but I am just suggesting that if you decide to rebuild it you monitor knock as I suspect that pulley was too small for your set up.

That does blow. I havn't even put 100 miles on the one I just bought and I'm already doing a head job so I feel your pain.

Can you tell where the knock is coming from? Up high, down low? Hows the oil and oil pressure look?

Drain the oil and run it thru your fingers. Sometimes you'll see crap drain out or be able to feel it but not see it on the stick.

Check your torque converter bolts tool. I've never run into that on a FWD car, but I don't see why it's not possible..

been there a few times with these. Sorry man. Just leave it off dont keep running it and cause more wear on the internals just incase you need to borrow some parts if you get a junkyard/salvage motor and do a swap.
