Could use any input on this issue with my 2008 Grand Prix.Getting a faint whirring sound when I turn the steering wheel left or right only when the car is moving. Power steering fluid is full and new serpentine belt steering is fine. thanks for any help.

check power steering fluid.
Thanks dude, I apparently have trouble reading whole posts. :th_peaceout:

He already said it was full.

Sounds like the power steering pump to me. some times they make noise. I can hear mine but I have always heard it make a little noise. As long as it's not leaking and it's not squealing I would just use the Audio Volume Modification to make it go away.

Do you know if it was ever replaced? My 97' Park Ave has always had a noisy pump and was taken in a couple of times when it was new to fix it they replaced it and a few months later it would make noise again. My grand parents owned it and got tired of taking it in. I changed the pump a few years ago and lifted the wheels off the ground and cranked it lock to lock then started and did that again, put some more fluid in it waited a few minutes for all the bubbles to dissipate then started it ran it lock to lock again a couple of times until it was quiet. Then about 3 months later it started making a faint noise again. My 05' does it too. It's not very loud but I can hear it. At least it's not as loud as a Ford power steering pump.

Be sure the steering hoses don't touch anything, they can transmit vibrations. If this is steering pump whine flush fluid first before replacing pump. My whine went away completely after a flush.

does the pump whine increase with engine rpm's? does the wheel turn easier in park if you give it some gas?

thinking the pump is on its way out.

the loud radio trick will only work till you cant turn the wheel any more lol

Only a sissy can't drive the car without power steering. I've had this issue with both pumps I had on my Park Ave. Then again the pump was a reman, so who knows the quality. The GP I drove it home with an empty rack and ps pump so it is probaby damaged then. My Diablo kept getting leaks in the hoses and the steering box so I drove it for about 6 weeks without power steering, you know to teach it a lesson, then I bought a new pump and gearbox. Put the gearbox on then just filled pump back up and went through getting the air out and never ended up replacing the pump. It's still on that car to this day lol. I fully expected it to not work but it did. I was pretty young when I did that.

It is the same sound no matter what I do.Looks like a pump change down the road or radio change what ever quits first. Thanks Scottydoggs
