Whining sound at 30 mph

NeedGTHelp

New member
Hello everyone, I have a 2004 Grand Prix GT,about a month ago I hear a whining sound towards the front of the car. I figure it is the p/s fluid getting low, so I check and refill, still the same sound.

This sound only starts at about 30 mph and continues to get higher, anyone please help!

WHY DID YOU NEED MORE THAN ONE POST THAT WAS THE EXACT SAME THING?!!!11

that is all. also, moved to a maybe right section.

Whining front of car

Need help or any suggestion on what front end whining sound might be; the sound is definately not p/s, please help!:confused:

Re: Whining front of car

Thats what I was gonna ask.
Does the whining only happen when your accelerating or all the time?
Where is the whining coming from driver or passenger side?

Re: Whining front of car

Probably shouldn't be starting multiple threads about the same problem, just sayin...

Other thread said it started at around 30mph, and continued to get higher...
also a 2004 GT, btw..

Does the whining stop when you lightly press the brakes?? I had a caliper that wanted to randomly stick, and thats what was causing it..

PS pump will groan, not really whine.
Could possibly be a stretched belt rubbing, or any number of other things.
Does the whining increase steadily with the speed of the car??

Try to determine if its comming from the Driver/passenger side, then try to tell if it's comming from the engine bay, or the wheel wells.

Re: Whining front of car

Many things can whine as mentioned.

I'll toss in a clogging transmission pump. If the filter is nearly plugged...it'll whine as it tries to pump fluid.

make another thread in another section about this and ill just delete all of them. knock it off.

Wheel bearings usually start making noise around 30MPh. Does the pitch of the sound change when you make turns?

Does the RPM make a difference?
Can you replicate the sound by putting on the parking brake and revving in neutral?

Thank you to everyone who replied to my thread, so here are my responses and maybe you all can continue to help me;
@Coreygnar, no supercharger
@slick2500, Sound starts at about 30 mph and its coming from the passenger side in front of car.
@machinegunsquid, the whining sound does increase with the speed of the car
@SlowNA06, No it only starts at about 30 mph and grows with acceleration
Thanks again all, please continue to help!

Bill's right, deff sounds like a wheel bearing, alot of these bearing threads going around. Is the abs light on?

Thanks, @ Bill there is no change if wheel is turned right or left
@a3, abs light is not on
Would anyone know the approximate cost for bearings and/or labor?
THANKS AGAIN
