Which other w-body key barrel fits the Grand Prix?

Hi everyone,

As stated in my other post, I can not use keys to unlock the driver door with my car keys. Can I go to the junk yard and get a key barrel and key to fit my 2006 GP GT?

You could, but you would need it re-keyed or get the key for the car you got the used barrel from. I would say any 04-08 grand prix will work, but i could be wrong.

Most of the time when I am in junk yards, the keys are somewhere in the car. Not always in ignition I have seen them in the trunk before :confused:
 
you can go to the junkyard and get one however you're likely going to find that those are also corroded solid since everyone uses their remotes and never uses their keys.
you're likely best to just remove your lock cylinder and get the correct one.
I highly doubt unless the car was in an accident that the drivers door lock is not the same as the ignition.
the ignition lock tumbler uses 8 gates the door only uses 4 gates so yes there is a chance that someone else's key could open your door but not turn your ignition.
 
I called GM and they want $187 for the barrel and $27 to code it. Someone here suggested an autoparts store will sell one for $20.
