which intercooler ???

was looking for some tips on intercoolers. for one will anything besides a SS fit under an SD hood? is a fullsize intercooler really worth it? check out my current mods, and know im ready to IC, cam, and whatever else the equation needs. thanks for your time

Where are you mods?And yes a full size intercooler will clear the factory hood on all 98-03 grandprix's and will not rub at all as long as you have poly upper mounts.and aftermarket rails
 
found them...and um yeah you need an intercooler to run anything below a 3.4 without a cam...dont put the 3.2 back on unless you want to blow something up...get the fullsize and don't look back
 
Tell me what you want out of your car...1/4 mile time would be easier...but whp (not crank hp) will do also
 
I'm not 100% sure but if the fullsize doesnt fit under your sd hood you can just cut into your sd hood like many have if there's not enough room. The SS intercooler is ok, but you will be happier with a full size IC. If you don't like cutting into your sd hood from underneath, drop a cam in and work your way up until your asking for more umph, then IC.
 


Most people on clubgp have to cut some fiberglass out of their hoods for the SD hood to fit over a fullsize I/C. 30 seconds and grinder will take care of that problem really quick.

dont say that. im running a 3.2 on my mods with minimal (~1*) of knock up until 3rd gear. im not even tuned either, i only use my afc to keep my trims in check.

Consider yourself very very lucky and an exception to the general rules.I will be the first to say I would not belive what you just told me if you had not of tried it for yourself...you scan gauge ok? lol j/k
 
scan every few days with my ls1m. it knocks a lot more when its cold outside, but once i put my ssic on then i see myself being able to drop another pulley. id rather up my timing instead, but have no means of doing it.
 
i guess you could get a happy knob. seems to work well for some. what dod you think about that. and how much are those anyway?

It knocks when its cold because the AFR is too lean. Yes?
 
what im thinking is that when its cold the timing goes up, which is why in the winter i see almost 18* of timing and only 13* in the summer. im thinking this is where my knock is coming from, as well as not being tuned in any other aspect besides my fuel trims. im sure if i got a good tune on it as it sits right now without the intercooler that i could run the 3.2 knock free 100% of the time.

What does your IAT versus Spark table look like?

Impressive you can run a pulley that small w/o an IC. I can only run a 3.25 and still may see 1* of KR. After I get arouind to putting my IC on, I'm going to go with a 3.0 daily, with an AFR of 11.8 to 12.0 and no more than 20* of timing. IF I can do that 100% of the time with no KR then I'll be very happy.

Your tune must be pretty good or you have an excellent combo of mods OR both:th_thumbsup-wink:[
 
i have no idea what any of my fueling or spark tables or PE look like because i dont have a tuner. just the ls1m.

i have a dhp 1.5 file with codes deleted for the egr and random misfire. otherwise its a pretty crappy tune as far as i can tell. i just keep my long term trims at -0.8 when i go WOT. its worked out pretty well for me so far, so i cant complain.
