Which factory cam for a budget DOD delete?

I am rounding up parts for a DOD delete on my '06 GXP. I am on a tight budget,so I am going to go with a used factory camshaft. After some research the LS2 cam looks like it would work well. The car is a daily driver and I will be using the factory torque converter. I will eventually be doing an LS1/LS2/LS6 intake swap,LS3/LS7 TB,LS7 MAF,etc. Is this cam a good choice for my application/budget? Thoughts?

I figured a first gen Z06 (LS6) cam wouldn't be a bad choice either.

I know you can find them just as cheap.

Blueguy that is true. I think the specs on the first gen LS6 cam are about the same as the LS2. LS2 cams seem more plentiful on craigslist, etc. Hopefully I can find one for a good price.

Just for info sake...

LS2: 204/211 @ .050" .525"/.525" I/E max lift, 116 LSA
LS6: 204/218 @ .050" .551"/.547" I/E max lift, 117 LSA...which means its a smidge smoother too, lol.

LS2 is an excellent choice to get you started. Obviously when the heads are off, pop a new set of LS9 springs on (they have superseded the LS6 part number).

If you need lifters, trays, gaskets, head bolts and etc...I would be happy to fire off pricing on a package deal of the parts. Not sure what you already have.

I was under the assumption it was all in the heads, as the intake manifold flows just fine on the trucks...where the manifold for us would be the limitation there.

I'd venture to guess that the LS2 and the LS6 would make very similar numbers on a basic LS4 motor, even with an intake swap.
