Where is the Power Steering Reservoir Cap???

Where the hell is this thing? The Hayne's manual says it is on passenger side toward the rear of the engine. The service manual that came with the car says behind the alternator. I've looked online and people say it's under the alternator.

I don't see a damn thing! I spent about 45 minutes looking for the damn cap and I know I have power steering. Am I looking way too hard?

About 6 months ago I had it in my brothers shop and he found it in under 5 seconds, haha. I just don't remember where it is.

I've searched all the engine bay, not just the alternator.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Can someone take a picture and circle it or something. It is a 1998 Grand Prix S/C.

Thanks

It's "under" the alternator. Lean way over the engine and look down past it. You'll see it blocked mostly by the heater core hoses. It's down there. Here is a pic with it circled for reference:

yea i plan to add the fluid when i wake up... tried to do that this morning....

i think I read earlier but it doesnt matter if I overfill it right??? it will just overflow and leak out which is no big deal right?

thanks

such a pain in the ass to get to tho... will a funnel even fit down there???

How do I know how much I need? I bought a quart? how much power steering fluid does the system use?

Ya...it will fit...I spent forever lookin for mine!!! And I have small arms and hands and it still was hard for me to get to it to unscrew the cap!

ok... did it this morning and I didn't have a funnel with a tube..

My experience

#1 the reason I couldn't find it is because the cap was covered in black sludge and sand and what not... it blended in.

#2 had to slant the funnel on sideways and was a pain to pour the bottle because of my Otto Bar... and I wasn't going to take that off because their are more problems trying to get that thing on than there is pouring the power steering fluid.

#3 I overfilled and sat there for about 30 minutes with a syringe sucking out the fluid.

#4 car steers much better now...

is your STB on backwards? mine goes on and off like butter. which way does the OTTO in the middle read? is it upside down? if so it is on the right way then..

also, i couldn't find it anywhere.. but one may run across this post.. from what i've gathered any regular power steering fluid from the store should work.. just make sure it's not a honda power steering fluid really. should say made for ford,gm,chrysler.:th_winking:
