Where is my oil going??

I hope this is the right section. I have an Implala w/the 3.8 engine. I have to add a quart of oil every 3k miles. There are no puddles under the car and I had it on a lift last week and it is bone dry. So I assume it is burning it, but I am fairly sure every 3K is not normal.

Is there somewhere else I should be looking?
 


could be a valve cover gaket... mine had a bad leak with no puddle, leaked onto exhaust manifold and burned off.
 
if it was still under warranty, and you took it to the dealership complaining about this, they would tell you nothing is wrong, and that a quart every 3000 miles is perfectly acceptable.

when i first got my grand prix it was using about a quart every oil change. i switched oils to valvoline maxlife and it hasnt used a drop since

ALOT of GM engines lose oil, and alot of them lose a hell of alot more then yours is losing
 
Well, like Jake indicated. A quart every 3K isn’t alarming, but it would concern me as well.

My advice to you is change to a “high mileage” oil, they have extra seal conditioners and minimize burn off.:th_thumbsup-wink:
