Hi, I am almost finished with my L67 swap in my 1998 intrigue, but I have run into a real issue. So far I have every wire connected to every sensor/plug minus the MAP sensor (adapter is on it's way) and when I hook the negative cable to the battery I get a big arc and if I tighten it down I get smoke coming from the engine harness plug that goes to the cam, crank and then the Ign control module. I tried some simple deducting like disconnecting the cam and crank sensor and leaving the ign control module still plugged in and it smoked. So I then took the old harness that has just the and plugged the old ign control module in and same thing smoked and got hot again. *Also engine will not crank. I don't know what to do any ideas are more than welcome. Thanks.

I would probably look at the ground real closely with something like that happening

thats a good one. make sure your battery cables and grounds are hooked up right.

I have checked the grounds, I too think it looks like a common ground issue where the wires are looking for the nearest possible connection.

What harness\PCM are you using? Obviously something has a dead short to ground somewhere.

I was able to use the pre-existing wire harness that was in the car as it was originally a n/a l36 engine. So no mods to the wire harness and as far as the PCM goes I had Overkill make me a tune because there were no intrigues to ever have a SC'd L67 engine.

Let me look at some schematics, something is shorting to ground somewhere. Have you tried disconnecting the ICM, crank, and cam censor (basically only leaving the ICM harness grounded_.

Yes, I've disconnected the cam and crank sensors and ICM. I found that I can leave the cam and crank sensor hooked up, but not the ICM. The ICM is what seems to be not getting along with the rest of the harness.

It's the factory ICM from the L67? Have you tried a different ICM? Pull it off an look at the pins, maybe one of them got bent or something.

Yep its the one from the l67. The pins look good. I also tried the ICM from the l36 that was in the car and its harness and same thing.

Where do you have the ICM harness grounded?

With the ICM harness disconnected, hook the battery up and check for voltage at any of the pins. Nothing should have voltage with the key off.

I'm gonna check tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure there is because the key has been off the whole time.

any chance you got the battery pos and neg cables mixed up at the starter and the ground on the tranny? seems like the engine is hot. with power that is.

That's your sign right there. Disconnect both and check for continuity between positive and negative.

Ok, so I checked the wiring at the starter and found that somehow one of the wires that I had bolted to it was actually the ground wire that is supposed to be grounded to the block according to a friend of mine. Anyway now the short is out of the way I have a new problem. Now the fuel pump actually primes like it is supposed to, but the now when I turn the key the engine will not turn over. I had the starter out and it tested fine so it isn't the starter. And yes I checked the neutral safety switch incase that helps any.
