wheel bearing hub

ok so i'm back again with another problem. I've taken some time off working on my car but now that i'm back to it all i had left to do was take it to a garage n get the front end aligned now last time i tried this they told me i had to replace my passenger wheel bearings before the alignment can happen. So i ordered a set of brand new wheel bearing hub assemblies to replace both of them figuring it was better to replace driver n passenger hub assemblies at the same time. replaced them n took it to the shop yet again. Now it sat in my driveway for 3 weeks because i had to go to florida for some work. so these hubs are only 3 weeks old n driven only 20 miles on them and the shop says that the passenger side is bad. now i'm aware that i may have a bad piece but i wanna check all routes first. is there an underlying cause that could make it appear as though my bearing is bad. as for under or over tightening i know for sure i didn't overtighten the bolts but under is a possibility. Also i strictly just pulled the hubs off and put the new one on, was there any seals or anything that were supposed to be changed that i may have overlooked or something?

hmm. what makes me wonder if why the shop is telling you they are bad?

perhaps it's another suspension piece worn giving them tire movement making them think the wheel bearing is shot?

they let me come in n feel the play in the tire and show me some other things that were wrong...seeing as its a small town they usually ignore safety protocols for people that do most of their own work on their cars. but my point is i did feel the play while grabbing the top n bottom of the tire as with when i grabbed the sides of the tire. but as you said could it be something else. the other part that i am replacing is the inner tie rod end on the drivers side...i had replaced the outer tie rod end when i began working on the car cuz i bent it while towing but they informed me the inner was bad as well. being as this is on the drivers side could it impact the passenger side?

hmmm. timkens are about the only thing you should be replacing them with..

i find it weird even though it's a new bearing it's still giving you problems.

i'm willing to bet it's another suspension piece. replace the tie rod and what not, and check all other suspension pieces for play. even the lca, front bushings more specifically.

if the wheel bearings are new and the tierod is good the only thing i would think is the Ball Joint. how does it drive? does braking change how it acts? turning? stepping on it? vary with speed?

even the crappiest hubs wouldnt go out that fast. there is soemthing else or they are just out to rip you off

as for how it is different there's no way for me to know because i have not driven this car while it was at a 100% yet. compared to how other cars drive i can do. turning is a complicated situation though because the steering is outta line bad but only on the driver side tire from where i had to change outer tie rod and my power steering line has a hole in it so steering is difficult only wierd thing is normally a car get easier to drive with no power steering the faster your car is going, but turning the wheel only gets easier during right hand turns if at all. as for braking it doesn't seem like it stops like it should, like the pads are worn down, it could be im not used to the heavier car, ive been driving a lil hatchback accent for a year and a half, and the pads are in pretty good shape on the car i haven't looked to closely to the roters yet. and i haven't noticed any vibration in the wheel that couldn't be associated with the bad alignment

Are you certain that you tightened the axle nut to the correct torque?
It's possible that the new bearing just isn't properly seated.

so i replaced my drivers side tie rod and had my cousin try to look at my passenger side wheel bearing and suspension crap. first thing he noticed is that the wheel was extremely hot, saying there was too much friction. brakes are fine, ball joint seems fine. only thing we concluded is that i may have tightened the axle nut too much. when doing this i used an air gun that puts out 800-900 ft/lbs of torque and i held the trigger til the nut did not move at all, my thinking was that the axle nut should be as tight as possible, reading this note i was apparantly wrong. could tightening it the axle nut too much cause the wheel bearing to go bad in the little bit that i was driving it

well i'm not certain. but i have read that if you get it too tight you are essentially crushing the bearing. so perhaps that is the cause? we shall see...

Ummmm, you should NEVER use an impact wrench to tighten axle hubs. What happens is you end up hammering on the bearings that can cause flat spots on the bearings and will cause pre-mature failure. And you can crush the bearings. Use a torque wrench only to tighten it.
