whats this smell?

ever since i installed the fwi, i keep getting this burning smell.
it did it before, if i got on the gas (alot on the gas, really running the car) i would get a burning smell, but i can be at 3000 rpm's and i can smell this burning smell. what the heck is that coming from? any ideas? it doesnt always bother me, but sometimes im just like ok, whats up with this. is it jsut something that comes with the territory of putting in an intake?

and like i said with the stock set up, i would get a burning smell, but id reallllllllly have to be pushing the car. other than that nothing ever. after the intake, its all the time, and kinda strong of a smell. almost like a dam fire lol. if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Well...if you were getting it before the intake then it isn't related. Supercharger oil leaking? Plastic touching something it shouldn't? Check stuff...like wire loom.

It just happens so much easier now. And it only happens once I give it gas. Like if I get down on the peddle a little bit I get the smell. I don't think anythings leaking because its super clean under the hood. I haven't seen any oil anywhere. And I park on top of some wood every night so if somethings leaking ill notice it on the board. Maybe some plastic is touching something. But it seems like I would get the smell even when the motor warms up, and not only after I hit the gas peddle pretty hard. Know what I mean? I can be driving for like 3 hours, nothing. The minute I hit the peddle to hear the sc whine, there it is. When it happened with the stock equip it was a very faint smell. Now its pretty strong.

I still think you might have a S/C leak somewhere...mine did the same thing and you wouldn't really smell it until you got into the throttle and started heating everything up...is it a very gross smell? What's smell like? Coolant, oil, gas?

Ummm. Honestly I don't know. It kinda smells like burnt paper a little bit. It never smells like coolant. I hit it today and it was really faint. Maybe its working itself out. I'm gonna drive it 2morrow and do it again. See if its strong as usual again. Today it wasn't.

Also, there are some rims I'm thinking about getting. They are 17x7.5. Do u know if that's the same width that I have on there now? I have the lil chrome plated gtp wheels. the new rims are 23 lbs. I know my factory wheels are 17" I just can't figure out the x part. I can't seem to find out exactly what size. I don't want to get wheels that aren't as wide because I love the "wide" look of them.

Keep the stock twisted torque stars and put that money towards mods...bigger wheels slow you down ;)

As for the intake...what did you make it out of? That might be the smell...

I had a simular smell when i did the Seafoam for the first time EVER on this car, scared me a bit, it was an odd smell that wasnt oil, gas or coolant, but after riding it out and the check engine light came off the smell was gone never to return.....unless i eat Tacobell then it comes back! j/k

Bluegtp- ok thanx. The rims aren't bigger, they are the same size, but I think they weigh LESS. Ill have to do more research, but I think they weigh less.

Also, when I 1st did the intake (when I first started getting the smell) I just put a filter where the maf is. (Sri set up) then I went to autozone and bought the "spectre" piping for the d.I.y fwi. I guess its plastic.

Gpsims- tacos huh lol. Lmao, ok no tacos.
The smell isn't sticking around like it normally does. I haven't smelled it all day today. Maybe its worked it self out.

Holy double post batman...trying to get your post count up are ya?

And yeah...that stuff is coated plastic...when you have some money go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get PVC pipe...and paint it so it looks nice too ;)

Lmao lolol. It was an accident. I don't kno how that happened.

U think pvc is better than what I have? Why? Just trying to get a better undersstanding.

Because from what I have seen that plastic Spectre crap looks like it is going to melt.

i had that intake pipe when i built the CAI for my tbird, worked great and never got hot but i think there is MUCH more heat comming up because of that U-Bend for the exhaust

Ok then lol....
It doesnt seem to be getting to hot. It just seems like my motor is running hot. Maybe its just me but i smell coolant sometimes. I dont know. Ill have to look more into it. I know the temp is normally over the ''halfway'' mark on the gauge, then it goes down 1-2 notches under that. Problem is, before i did the intake i never reallllly paid attention to the temp that much. So i dont have anthing to compare it to lol.
