What the Hell went through Ford's mind when they killed Mercury?

Seriously, it was awesome paying $5,000-$15,000 more for a Ford vehicle with a Mercury badge. I know Ford was losing serious money over Mercury but they should have never killed it. I am super smart at world economics and this has nothing to do with it, they could have kept all the badges and survived just fine.

No more MKZ and Marauder ? Those cars were pretty darn nice! I was waiting for them to bring back the old school cougars!

what about Oldsmobile? i like them to, but to bad, right.

and ford still has lincoln. we need limos in the world.

who needs a Taurus marked up 7 grand so it can say sable?

can you tell im not a ford fan at all?

My moms 01 intrigue has 250,000mi and still has great acceleration. I was impressed. lol. Tis a bummer but life is full of bummers.

I think it's stupid that they kept Ford trucks around, but got rid of Mercury trucks. Mercury had a huge fan base, and I know a bunch of guys that will drive their Capris until the wheels fall off, then scrounge together their $1,500 life savings, and buy ANOTHER Capri!! Can you believe that?? They'll buy ANOTHER ancient pile of crap!! How can you get rid of a car with that big of a following of poor rednecks?? I know this guy that had a Ford, Mercury AND Lincoln dealership at one point, and he agrees with me. Ford Motor Corp executives showed him all this info on how much money they're loosing on Mercury every year for the past decade, and he said "I don't give a f*ck!! It's stupid to get rid of Mercury!!" So OBVIOUSLY I was right since this guy agrees with me.

They should have temporarily stopped production, rebuilt Mercury, and made a really high quality Sable decently equipped and priced at $15k so that poor people who feel entitled to nicer things can afford them. That way, they could stay in business by selling lots and lots of cars at a loss. Think about this! Now that previously new Mercurys are old, and worthless, poor people everywhere who can't afford NICE cars are buying them up like crazy!! What more proof do you need that Mercurys are popular, and sold like crazy, you know-it-all pompous morons!?

I see what's going on in here.

nothing personal poke lol im 6'6" and just dont fit well in mustangs. (last one i drove i couldn't let the clutch up, my knee was hitting the wheel) and when we were all growing up you kinda had to pick a car company you like, and bond with that group.

i've just always been a GM guy, and thats not going to change anytime soon. i've never owned anything but GM cars and trucks, and one mgb way back in the day.

i do have the ability to notice a nice car of any make and appreciate it tho. someone put the time and effort into it, its someones baby.

What went through GM's mind when they killed Geo?

But the real question...

Why would those darn Serbs get rid of Zavasta! Those Yugos were a heck of a way to save some cash!

You forgot to insinuate that the person, and others he consorts with are homosexual. That is the basis for a solid opening, leading to an intelligent arguement.

Or that could be the drivel that sprouts from the mouth of a desperate man who is absent intelligent thought....I can't remember.

Oh no, that wasn't directed at you in any way. I appreciate alot of cars, and respect the opinions of other's. I wouldn't last 5 mins here if I didn't with all the Ford hate lulz. I was just having a go at the title of the thread, and the similarities it shares with the "OMG why did GM kill Pontiac?" thread.

If you'd like to hate Ford...don't do it because of Mercury... go work on one and learn why hatred and beatings should occur.

Currently motor swapping a 1988 E150 conversion van. Trust me..we've all asked the guy why. He likes it. Wish us luck on the plumbing nightmare, there's no viable or logical reason behind it.

bill that engine come out the pass side door right ? seen that a few times looks like fun.

ford has a comfort problem to as far as im concerned, seats blow, and the side view mirrors are all in the wrong place, the pick up trucks are the worst.

Comes out the front. Disassemble nose, pull the oversized ford plenum off, snap about 100 hard plastic vacuum lines as you try to unhook them, move 8 fuggin miles of plumbing and things, pop both front brackets off the motor (alt/air pump and ac/ps pump) then you can actually pop it out pretty easily. We short chained it and that part went well.

Still wanna smack the dumb engineer that put studs on Ford torque converters. Makes it that much tougher.

What do they give you on full coverage with an 88 Ford...lol Best part was I am at the shop starting to swap stuff from old to new and had to cut a nut off the coil bracket on the new one. Rust and Ford are both 4 letter words that go together. Anyhow.. I fight this nut and finally it pops off.......without enough time to wave goodbye it drops right into an open runner on the intake. When my buddy got back to his shop I asked where the fishing pole was located. We got it back out in few tries. Crisis averted. No doubt they circled the problem (look at a ford emblem)
