recently i put in a pioneer 4300 headunit, infinity door and rear 6x9 speakers, and a 2000 watt lanzar amp. my problem is the headunit makes a noise and it goes in like 1 or 2 second increments. i can see that it is a plastic gear spinning inside the headunit box. also the rear speakers have a thumping sound of the bass that is in sync with the spinning of the gear in the headunit.

this happens with the car on or off. lights dont dim when the bass hits hard. i have a 8 guage wire running to the amp... im not sure where to start to diagnose the problem. any ideas? thanks
 


First you should have bigger wire for powering that amp more like 4 gauge or even 1/0 gauge would be preferred. 8 gauge is way too small for 2000 watts.

If he's burping or something else I might agree. The only issue he might have is heat. Make certain that the fuse isn't getting too hot or over heating. If the wire insulation looks like it's "melting" or "burning" on the edges then you need to upgrade your wiring.

Honestly I really don't know where to start with your install so I didn't want to answer. I think you need to start reading and educating yourself on a lot of different things. Pick one topic and we'll start there.
 
thats the one thing i regret is not really knowing enough and kinda got in over my head i think. and im willing to learn anything im just a super slow reader. im smart just read slow so when i see a huge big long thing with tons of information i get discouraged i think. throw the basics at me in semi-simple terms and i feel i can catch on. sorry if im being a PITA
 
First thing I have to say is check all of your grounds. If your head unit is grounding properly then it will find other paths to accomplish the task. So with that said, is there any "alternator noise"? If you don't have alternator noise but you are hearing the head unit moving parts then the issue is probably within the head unit itself.
 


no there is no alternator noise, it doesnt go with the pitch of the engine or anything like that. although today i was driving and the noise there, nor was it yesterday, which is the first time it hasnt been there and ive had it installed for over a month now probably. im confused as to why it just went away but as long as its gone i cant complain all that much
