what mods will get me better mpg

Custom tune and some gas saving tactics like making sure your tires are at the right psi, 35ish is safe. You can also learn how to drive with MPGs in mind. Google hypermiling techniques.

Anything else's cost will far outweigh the benefit, unless you want to go fast, which is not good for MPG :)

18-19 city is decent. If Im heavy on the pedal it goes down fast. Drive normal and a open cone with a custom tune like ^dude^ said and that will be really the only thing worth it. Id be happy with 18-19 Im at 17-18 but thats short trips and 2 flow mods my upcoming tune should help ALOT

Headers! Get some SD of eBay for about 200, buy a new flex pipe for 30, and if you cant weld or don't have a shop... it'll be more.

I get 20.* city headers and stock rear muffs nothing inbetween.

Intake, headers, UD pullies etc all help in gas mileage, just gotta learn how do drive it. I find getting to the speed limit on the "quicker" side nets me better mpg vs just "driving" to the speed limit.

^ I feel the same, when I try and baby it in town I honestly feel like I get worse mileage....I don't fly around the city but I've found that point right in the middle that I feel gets me the best mileage

It could just be me but on avg I really can't tell a difference on MPGs for in city driving. Baby'ing the car or playing light to light with the civic next to me... I still only get 250miles to a tank (give or take) and with prices as they are its not worth not enjoying the car when Im driving.

Granted on highway at 65 Ill bump to 30mpg +/- but in city is always 18-20.

Just enjoy the car and if your really hating the bill, get a bike and enjoy 70mpg :th_laugh-lol2:

When I first got 05 mine was the same kind of deal. Whether hammering down or driving respectfully Id always need to fill up at 300 miles. Highway trips was about 320/330 so an added 1 to 2 mpg. Now with a tune and stuff, I see more difference in it.

Get a tune up?

I'm modded to sh1t and I get well over 25+ on the highway all the time and about 15-18 city. If I'm nice to it.

I asked about this earlier because I thought I was getting bad mileage. Turns out I'm doing good with 17-18 mpg in the city, and I just got 23 on a short highway trip yesterday (mind you I was going 130km/h). With mods the same before and after, I noticed a decent increase after I replaced my fuel filter, plugs, pcv valve and air filter (during the same tune up).

Yeah these cars don't get that super of a gas mileage regardless. Especially considering there are many V8s out there running equal or better mpg.

You missed my point. He asked what mods get better mpg, and really there aren't many. I listed off some regular maintance items that should help at least maintain reasonable fuel efficiency. I guess it would make more sense had I mentioned that before I gave my car said tune up I was getting anywhere from 14-16mpg and now 17-18

I'd like to know what maintenance items I can repace to et better mileage...

I am averaging about 21.9 with combined city/hwy.

I want to replace spark plugs, wires/ and both oxygen sensors to increase my MPG's..

ANything else?

Can someone recommend what spark plugs and wires to put on this car? Mine is a 2000 gt.. do you think it is to soon to do this? Car is 11 years old but has 62k miles. Id like to put the best in...

There's many opinions, but I can tell you some of these engines are quite finnicky if you put Bosch plugs in......The stock plugs are good for 100k usually, but they can be a PITA to get the plug boots off if you let them go that far....

Unless you see damaged wires or have a misfire you shouldn't have to replace the wires. Another good test is to start the vehicle once it's dark, open the hood and see if you can see your spark plug wires arching to the engine.

If I were you, I'd just replace with the stock ACDelco's plugs, and use anti-seize on the plug threads and use dielectic grease on the plug boots....You'll thank yourself later for greasing up the boots if you keep the car..

Yep, just use good ol Delco wires and plugs and call it done. I wasn't getting a misfire when I changed my wires, but I did notice that almost every single one had a small arc coming from the coil post to the alum. dogbone mount on my 00 GT. Replaced the wires and runs smooth as silk. Idles right at 850 and never misses a beat.
