What is this?

SubwayGuy

Who is this guy?
As you can see in the pictures, I have this film that is bubbling and peeling off on my climate control module. The radio doesn't have this problem and I haven't heard of anyone else that has had this problem. My question is, is this like a temporary protective film put on the factory, kind of like the film on a new phone? Or is it actually part of the module that isn't supposed to be peeling? I'm tempted to just peel it off, but am afraid it will rip all the colors and labels with it. Any thoughts?

I dont think the numbers will go with it. Look at the blue lines on the passenger side. Its not attached to the film.

That's what my thought was, but still wasn't sure. I hope I can get it all without taking the trim off surrounding the whole thing. Because I tried one time and could not get it past the steering wheel for the life of me. No matter what I tried.

Looks like protective film to me. All you have to do is pull on the trim to get it off. It's just held on by a bunch of clips.

I will go ahead tomorrow and peel it off. I'll see how much I can get off just by peeling and if some still is left behind, I'll use a razor blade. Thanks for the input guys.

The clips weren't the problem, it was slipping it past the steering wheel and hazard switch. Could not get it over that part. Had the wheel all the way down too.

Looks to me like that A/C head was replaced but never unwrapped. Might need to be warmed with a hairdryer to peel easy at this point.

I'd want the bezel loose before attempts to peel if its been on a long time. Heres the angle you need, you do have to be a little mean to the bezel to completely remove it but it can take it. You have to crowd the dimmer and hazard switches.

Once you have it back past the hazard switch and are holding it against the dimmer, mash down carefully at the top where it meets the dash pad. It will flex enough but barely.

It can be unplugged easily in the position shown. The bezel wouldn't have to be all the way off to peel that plastic, just pulled back some to access the edge.

Well I was able to peel the film off by the A/C button. I was able to peel all the film off without taking the trim off. I just need to wipe the dried glue residue off.

turn hazards on.. use your hand to help slip it past..and put the blinker down and maybe even pull back slightly. It's tight.. but it slides out. Of course..if you peeled most of it and then pulled the trim foward w/o taking it out.. you could probably reach behind and finish the job w/o trouble.

ive seen customers request that all delivery prep is done except for protective's removal.

some owners just want to unwrap their new toy I guess.

or someone was slacking on a delivery prep

Here's the result. Looks much better. There is still some discoloration form where the bubbles were and such. But it turned out good. I tried a wet paper towel to wipe it down, but it only helped some. You can see by the A/C button a nice, clean spot. I'm hoping a Clorox wipe can get the whole thing to look like that.
