I know problem after problem.Im sure this can be worked out too.Ive noticed most times car starts up fine, strong.Dont have to give it any gas and only half turn the key.So for the most part satisfied.I have noticed that on occassion when starting youll get this rattle, like something is spinning.Any ideas?

Well has the car been sitting over night? If so then it probably just our loud 3.8. Or it might be your a/c compressor or something of the sort. Videos help.

check your exhaust hangers, i was missing 2 and it was rattling pretty bad when i started it up.

fyi: peppys and auto zone wanted 5 bucks a pop for the fat little O rings that holds the pipe up, i found them at a small mom and pop auto parts store for 1 buck each, some stores are just out of their minds i think with their prices.

OOHHH...pick me!

Ima go with a bad tensioner/worn tensioner!

They tend to sound like a chatter on start-up with the belt torquing them

Thank you all for your opinions.I do tend to think it may be what machinegunsquid mentioned. Its definately coming from under the hood.Im wondering however when you say tensioner are you talking timing chain tensioner?(i assume all cars have a timing chain?)My xterra had two tensioners that went bad right after the bad timing chain had to be replaced(truck was only 3 years old at the time)

he would have been talking about the belt tensioner, remove the belts and spin the pulleys, check the tensioner marks to see if they are still good and lining up.

they are the pulleys you need to turn to remove the belts, its a 14 mm socket i think.

Our cars have a timing chain Dampener/Damper.

It's kind of like a tensioner, does the same job, just a different style.

And no, I mean the tensioners for the serpentine belt, and the supercharger belt (if you have a GTP)

Just pop the hood, and have someone start the car, while you look. It's really easy to see if they are chattering. They'll rock back and forth, and the actual noise is caused by the tensioner hitting the stop (fully disengaged)

Is it a GTP? Surprised no one's mentioned supercharger rattle. My Regal would make a rattle noise from the supercharger for the first 15-20 seconds of it running.

Try starting the car while holding the brake? Some cars the ABS makes noise when you start it...like mine. If I start it without holding the brake it makes noise immediately. If I hold the brake and start it, it doesnt make any noise until I let the brake back out.
