Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

What is magnasteer ? Magnetic assistance ?

napa does carry magnasteer racks, or they can get one if not in stock. i got my last rack from them.

but if they ran the vin and it says no m/s option you dont have it.

there are no plugs or wires.
So, i guess i'm going to go with the online one and save me half the price.

funny thing, called gm dealer and they don't have it in stock but the can get it for me in about a week for $789!!!!

I remember paying ..I've pulled a screen from rockauto. I'm not sure where you're getting the parts, but they help for pricing stuff out. You can see units labeled "w/magnasteer" and other options. (used snip. hope its legible)

I'm getting the ebay one and saving $50 and installing it myself. the ebay store is a famous one that i dealt with several times before and they always had the best oem parts and i see no sense in paying the overhead for any physical retailer.

A solid choice.

Magnasteer actually varies based on vehicle speed from adding extra steering assistance to adding steering resistance. I recently had to replace a bad EBCM on our 2001 GT. Without Magnasteer the hydraulic power steering pump alone gives plenty of steering assistance, but as you go faster you don't get the extra resistance and the car still steers really easy, like a big 1980's Cadillac. At near-zero speeds, like maneuvering in a parking lot the hydraulic-only steering was only slightly stiffer than with working Magnasteer, so it was still plenty easy enough to drive. Swapping the EBCM fixed it and now it's back to normal. It's kind of weird knowing that it's Magnasteer that delivers the steering resistance at higher speeds, making the steering feel like a smaller car's rack-and-pinion steering. Also, the "higher speeds" where Magnasteer starts delivering resistance instead of assistance really aren't very fast in my judgement. I'd say by the time you're doing 30 mph, it's probably delivering resistance.

well, I eventually decided to to start by replacing the noisy pump with a GM one. Replaced it. All the noise is gone and the steering is assisted at idle or low speed and is resisted at high speeds. Did not mess with the rack and still not sure if it has magnasteer or not except the vin number dealer word that I don't have it.

I don't have a leak now and been watching the fluid level for about a month and everything works fine.
So, I don't thing I'll be replacing the rack soon. If at some point in the future I need to replace it, I'll get it online.
