What is it that makes grand prix so great!?

For me, it's been the reliability and the "umph" of a nice V6.

Purchased my 04 in 07 and have done nothing but basic maintenance and repairs. Car has never let me done.

For a sedan it's "zippy" as one of my brother inlaws says. V6 power is enjoyable. Plus I just like driving this car. It's a nice cruiser on the highway. Also gets decent gas milage for a car it's size.

What is it about the Grand Prix that draws you to it?

Pretty much what you said.

It is a large V6 that is one of the most reliable engines made. It is also relatively cheap to mod with many options available. Handles very well with suspension upgrades.

40+ years of development prior to being neutered (offered as a sedan only) might have something to do with it.

Because you can make a cheap, easy to modify car last for quite possibly 500K+ miles with just simple maintenance and a proper built-to-last trans.

And the car itself costs less than $5k up front, even for a super clean, rust free, low miles specimen.

There's hundreds in the JYs, so even more cheap replacement parts.

Police versions of Impalas have stuff that bolts straight in.

Add in the factory supercharger and HUD, and it's a no-brainer to keep one as a DD.

Nothing. Literally nothing. Not a thing.

Agreed.

Sure the engine is reliable, after you fix everything GM effed up from the factory. The trans is a crap shoot and since 97 you could only get them in automatic. The 04+ interior is worlds better than the 97-03, but it is still crap. They are heavy and handle like a boat. Everyone and their brother has one. Last, but not least, they were made by GM.

If they are so terrible, maybe you should sell yours and get something super lame like a Corolla.

For as cheap as these cars are, they are fantastic daily drivers.

Reliable daily driver for dirt cheap is what got me into a GP. For what these piles go for now days its hard to beat it.

Relatively cheap parts, discontinued parts, HUD, wheel gap in stock form,FWD, pretty good in snow, rust, fold down rear seats, hard gm paint,21mpg over-all,
moderate HP or no HP, low end torque, rock chips and stupid people dings, expensive Bilstein struts, finally got aftermarket coil over provider.....other than some annoying ABS bs at the moment....Blackspike2710 pretty much summed it up.
