How do you guys feel about the Torque app? Do any of you guys use it instead of gauges? What's with all the hate? I use it to scan for knock and as a boost gauge. It's also pretty handy to have when family and friends have check engine lights. It works good enough for me. I just wanted to see why some despise the app. Just as a disclaimer I don't have a ton of mods for my gtp. Just headers, plugs, 180*tstat, and zzp pcm.
 


For the love of god buy a proper gauge.......

here's the deal. instead of someone bashing me for being bias or just saying I don't like cell phone scanning apps.

If someone wanted to used this for a NA non boosted car go ahead NFG.

HOWEVER! on a supercharged or turbo car

Fuel pressure
Oil pressure
wide band A/F ratio.
Knock

Monitoring at least those 4 is pretty important IMO I could give 2 ****s less what a boost gauge says as long as the A/F is good and no knock.

From what Ive read about the App is its not going to provide 3 of those. The app will only provide data from sensors already on the car. For example coolant temp or boost from the MAP sensor. Knock it will pick up from the vehicle but again id rather not trust an app. Apps are usually laggy compared to a true gauge.

Fuel you need to add a sending unit and an external gauge.
oil pressure needs a sending unit and external gauge.
A/F ratio needs wideband o2 sensor.

By comparison a properly setup Aeroforce can monitor

I agree.. Somewhat with Vet. I would not personally rely on a cell phone app to save my motor. I know not everyone wants to spend or is not able to spend the $150-275ish on a Aeroforce gauge but imo if you have money to spend on mods or if your planning on modding that shouldn't be a issue.

I have 2 aeroforces. I love them enough to pay for them again (had to send them in for service after 4 years)
but I also just bought another plx kiwi for $40. They have a 60% off deal running not sure if that's still valid. I use this for any car I need to scan or read/clear codes. It's portable
you should have both. Just buy them. Do it
 
And I also have a separate scanner I keep in the toolbox in my trunk to check cel codes and one that can read abs codes. Although the the AF can read CEL codes it's just easier to use a actual scanner that way it's portable from vehicle to vehicle without having to constantly unhook and pull the AF

the Torque app can monitor the sensors on the car that the car runs on, what could possibly wrong with that? Lolz...

I've ve used it since it came out and is probably one of the best android apps IMO. Best thing to do is just set up the monitors screen with only what you need to see, keep the sampling down, this way it keeps up with the info coming in, but with the processors on the new phones I don't think that's an issue anymore.

For basically $20 for BT adapter and App... You can't go wrong! I use my old android as the reciever with the gauges and a nice window mount for phone... : )

For a mild build, torque app is great..it monitors everything the areoforce monitors, reads and clears codes as well..only down fall is Bluetooth lag..so there is a microsecond delay..I have both torque and aeroforce....you can also log with torque..it's pretty neat...for a cheap 20bucks, it will do what you need it to do and monitor kr...for bigger builds obviously wb and areoforce would be the best.

It is very obvious from your post that you have never used nor even looked at the Torque app. Guess what it does most if not all the things you listed plus more.
 
Torque Pro is faster than the Aeroforce, can datalog, show more information at one time, etc. The only advantage Aeroforce has over Torque Pro is the fact it fit's into a pillar gauge. They all can show the same information, if anything Torque Pro shows more information because it has GPS, accelerometer, etc. available from the phone.
 
You can't tell Tyler things he won't listen and doesn't care if it works and does what it's supposed to, its not an Aeroforce.

I use both together...turned a old nook into into a android tablet, got a aero force cheap odb2 splitter..boom..spaceship cockpit...but torque is sweet to see everything on one screen.
 
I have never regreted buying the BAFX and Torque app. I hate a mountain of gauges and it fits the bill just fine. You can setup warnings and all kind of things that an Aeroforce can't do. The only thing I have ever heard that the Aeroforce can do that the App can't is a CASE relearn. Other than that I can watch 6 gauges at the same time and flip through screens of other PID's. I have one page for Transmission items, One for temperatures and timing and voltage, and another for KR so I'm pretty well set... until I get DHP.

The aeroforce does have trigger warnings that can be set for almost all pids. From coolant temp getting to high or more than 1-2º of knock. Also the newest versions can data log for 60 seconds, which it great if you are doing WOT runs and want to watch play back right away.
 


So can Torque. You can set alarms for whatever PID you want. It's like I've said before, performance wise, they are basically the same. The Torque setup is BARELY faster, and if you only display one PID, it's twice as fast. Vise versa, if you have 4 PIDs on the same screen it's half as fast. The only benefit you have on an Aeroforce is the pod shape.
