Weird sounds when A/C is on

So i noticed the other day that when i have the a/c on my car makes a bad sound that gets louder as the rpms rise.
Reminds me of an electric motor winding up or something. Its not really horrible sounding but it just doesn't sound like something that should be normal.

I added some oil and refridgerent to the system. It got a little quiter but it's still there. My car has close to 150k on it now so i figure its probably just the compressor going bad.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

My car does the same thing but only on days where it's above 90*. It comes and goes and has been doing so for over 3 years. Never gave me any problem.

Mine does the exact same thing. Been doing it for a while and the ac is still running. Kind of like a wining grinding noise.

Does it only occur when the A/C is on? The compressor may be a possibility.

If it is more of a high pitch whine, it may be related to the temperature actuator shaft. These are just suggestions, not a diagnosis.

Consider having the vehicle inspected by a certified technician for an official diagnosis. Please keep us posted.

I know this is an old thread but figured I would bump this up. I have been having the same kind of issue with my AC lately. When I turn on the AC and the car is just under 1K rpms and the car is in drive, it makes an aweful noise. Almost sounds like something is lose and vibrating. As soon as I turn the AC off by pressing the button on the HVAC the sound goes away. Not really sure what it is. Not sure if it is just out of refridgerant or oil. The air is still cold that is blowing inside when it is on. The car just started doing this. I am going to try one of those recharger kits to see if it does anything.

Any thoughts from others?

Thanks
-Mike

Sounds like the bearings in the A/C clutch to me. Take a look at the compressor and see if you see any small metal shavings on it.
