Weird noise

its a 1999 and today when I was driving home I noticed a weird sound like a grinding or a vibrating pulley. As i started to pay more attention it seems to only happen when i shift from 1st into 2nd or low rpms. I parked the car and poped the hood the noise sounds like it comes from in-between the air intake and tranny hard to tell. Please help..... Has anyone had this noise before???

ok so i checked the fluid and when i wiped the tranny stick with a paper towel i notcied black stuff with the red fluid and the I looked closely and saw what appeared to look like metal shavings. Am i in trouble???

I'd run it a bit more before you do anything to the fluid. Reason being is..the dirt and darker red is normal. But the shavings wouldn't be. If you see them..something is happening. Likely your trans has a short life ahead of it.

When someone describes it like you did..I think of the input shaft reluctor wheel breaking it's pins and starting to dig into the channel plate. I think this because I'm the king of breaking the dumbest parts.

haha ohh bill

well thanks for the information. I agree with Bill and the tranny will prob be going out soon so I already started to look into rebuilding or replacing the tranny. Only thing is that I am having a hard time trying to find a shop that is reliable and trustworthly.

So finally after all this time I finally got a check engine soon light to come on and it was p0741. from the looks of it that sealed my deal on rebuilding my trany and should start saving money for that.
