weird noise from the rear of car

So when I'm driving or even coming to a stop I hear a noise from the rear as if there's something rolling/sliding around back there. Struts are good but I'm beginning to think it's my strut mounts(KYBs bout 3yrs old from wbody store) but the front strut mounts are fine.

What else could be loose or cause a loose sound in the rear(everything is tight from lug nuts up to strut mount bolts)?
 


Emergency brake is cool, nothing in my trunk that can make that much noise. Ironically the noise is only coming from the passenger side rear
 
You say it's a rolling noise. Does that mean it happens as you are driving/stopping. Once stopped no noise. When you move again it starts up again?

Kinda sounds wheel bearingish.
 
It doesn't sound like the right noise, but check the emergency brake line. I secured mine with some zip ties as it was rattling around back there.
 
Yeah Bill I'm leaning towards the wheel bearing also, after 15yrs never been changed it's a high possibility that that's the culprit. Only thing that's making me think it's not the wheel bearing is that the noise is intermittent(would be constant, for the most part if it was the wheel bearing).

Usually happens when driving over a bump, once over the bump then the noise follows. Weird, just had car on the lift yesterday and everything underneath seems to be tight including the exhaust which is the first thing I checked.

Hmmmmmmmmm, shouldn't nothing be in my spare tire area since I took that out a while back
 


Could be LCA bushing when on a lift it will be under load and seem tight or on the ground the same. You have to check using a jack on the ground to lift the body a few inches but leave the tire on the ground and then see if there is any play in the LCA or if you are on a lift coming down stop before the lift is free and the tire is on the ground. I'll take a look, but this sound is only coming from the rear of the vehicle. I would imagine if it was the LCA that I would hear this noise 24/7 on every take off or while braking beings though it is front wheel drive(especially with the way I drive).

No LCA in the back, we do have trailing arms but mine are well greased through their grease fittings. Funny thing is that the noise is more of a rough drive over bump sound opposed to a dry bushing hinge sounding noise.....don't think it's the bushings but I'll still check anyway
 
Yeah Bill, I find myself turning the music up pretty loud.

I think it is the rear emergency break linings, I can just adjust/tighten the brake lining instead of replacing it correct?
 


jack the back wheels up, and spin em, see if you hear anything.

only way the e brake is making noises is if they fell apart and are laying in the drum. does the e brake work?

the rear calipers could be hanging up too.
 
I stick to my previous statement. Turn the radio up.

BTW Dee.. I've used mine as a tow truck recently....while the radio was up.
 
Just stating the obvious, but have you looked at the rear pads and rotors for signs of excessive wear or damage?
 


I have seen many people who don't tighten down their spare tire well, and it bounces around.

While you are checking it, make sure it is inflated to 60PSI.
 
Funny, so I installed my new tires the other day and ironically I haven't heard the noise. My tires were bad but not bald.....2/32-3/32. May have been a belt shifting possibly....fooled me
