weird fuel pump problem

saturday i replaced my fuel filter. started it up went about 20ft and stalled. next day took pump out (thank god for access panel) and then my buddy wanted to plug it in and turn the key on with it out of the tank.

it sounded like it was pumping. so we put it back in the tank hooked it up and started the car and let it run a little. then it stalled. pump was no longer pumping

so we pulled the line off at the fuel pump and turned the key on and it pumped. after we hooked the hoses back up it has ran ever since.

another weird thing is when we started it up the tach stopped workingl. my buddy followed me home and it started working again.

im thinking electrical problem. what do you guys think

What year is the car, you may have a bad fuel pump resistor. This caused mine to stall out quite a bit a few years ago. Will it kind of star up and shut right back off almost immediately?

before it started working again normally when i turned the key you could feel something kick on in the pump but wouldnt pump

It would help to know what year, make, model car you have. You just posted in the general tech section, so hard to tell.

But off the cuff, I would guess the crank position sensor because of the issue with the tach.
