Waterpump and elbows

Original owner car has 328,000 miles first waterpump lasted eight years, second 6 third is going after only 3. So my thought is maybe change elbows this time around (they are the originals). Not sure if they are leaking but thinking with the age and miles I should. Question is if they are not leaking is it worth the trouble and how much trouble is it?

I am losing coolant but can't find any puddles or leaks LIM was changed in 2004 to the metal one so I am figuring pump or elbows. Losing about 10oz a day (90 mile trip)

Thanks Guys

elbows are easy, you just take the alt off, and then its bracket. clean the holes real good where the elbows go, lube the new orings and slide them in place and re bolt the alt bracket back on.

if the lim was changed the upper elbow was changed at that time for sure.

if you have a 97 or 98 the lower elbow is a cast elbow thats part of the alt bracket, be careful when pulling it out if you have one of those years.

FWIW...it might be helpful to break the upper elbow before loosening the bolts on the bracket.. then you just have to dig the ends out..and you have all the front/back wiggle you need to loosen up the lower elbow w/o pulling it toward the strut.

Just saying..I mighta done that before

So the concesus is I should change them huh? Eeven if they look ok? More a matter of when they will leak than if they will?

they should be changed, the leak you have could be the lower cast elbow. mine was leaking. you clean the elbow up good, then use the o ring off the unused new elbow.

i also snapped the upper elbow off, channel lock pliers made short work of it.
