Water Pump Replacment

Any tips on replacing the water pump. Seems pretty straight forward but i figured it would be good to ask before i tear into it. Also wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with different brands of pumps. Thanks

Pretty straight forward loosen up the IIRC the 4 bolts that hold the wp pulley onto the pulley first before you remove the belt, the belt keeps the pulley from spinning. Other then that a few more bolts and it's off. Use thread sealant when you bolt it all back together.

loosen the 4 pulley bolts, then take both belts off. if supercharged, check the lower idler to the right of the crank, it needs to come off some times its a T55 sometimes its a 15 mm bolts.

take the the power steering pump off, lay it off o the side its blocking the long bolts on the left side, that pulley blocks the lower right side long bolt.

then take the rest of the small bolts off around the pump.

clean the timing cover real good. make sure its free of any old gasket. then install the new pump with a dry gasket. no rtv is needed. the 4 long bolts clean them up and re apply threads sealant to them or they could leak coolant later on.

pump off, note the pulley on the lower right is off, and the pump is off.

i got a duralast pump, works just fine for the last 2 years or so now.

One thing I did a little different is I didnt remove the PS pump completely, I remove the bolt closest to the water pump and just rotated the PS pump out of the way. Its a little difficult to get new water pump back on but saved time and headache of trying to line up two PS pump bolts. Also check your coolant elbows just above the water pump, If they are the plastic ones and show any signs of leaking you might consider changing them while your in there.

Yeah I already got aluminium elbows when I replaced the LIM gaskets so I should be good there but thanks for looking out, and I’ll definitely try rotating the PS pump. I'm doing this in the dark with a flashlight so if i don't have to line up something I’d definitely rather not.

the p/s pump can be a pita for sure. once you take one off and figure out how it goes back on its not so hard the second time around.

the one bolt in sounds like a good trick.

i unbolted my fuse box and tied it up out of the way with some string to give my big ass arms some more room. if your coolant tank is on the strut tower, that will need to come off too of course.
