VW diesal Emission Scam

So if you haven't heard Volkswagen installed special code in diesel cars so that they would run cleaner for emission tests than normal driving. under normal conditions they don't meet federal regulations.
As a Volkswagen owner (non diesel) I laughed my ass off when I heard this, but then realized if they are doing stuff like that what else are they doing.

There are two main reactions:

American diesel standards are too tough
I don't blame VW

and
They lied and sold cars under false pretenses
(im more here)

Its very likely Volkswagen will modify the cars to run the emission tune all the time taking away power mpg etc. or face a HUGE federal fine.

thoughts?

Emissions have to be tough to begin with, I don't see why VW couldn't meet the standards if other manufacturers could. They figured out they could cheat the system and boast higher MPGs than the other manufacturers as a selling point. They've also cheated the European standards so VW is in some serious deep **** right now.

VW fine for this will be 10 billion on the US side and in europe not sure how large its going to be i wouldnt be suprised if they had to pay 100 billion in fines and computers employee time etc to "fix" the mess they made. also in the end this will hurt there other brands and could take decades for people to trust them again.

Europe is like 10X as strict on emissions than the US, nearly half of the cars over there are all diesels too. Some get 70 mpg without a care but are realy small and not something many americans would buy. They could have ran smurf juice to clean the exhaust gases but thats an extra cost.

Also most the diesel's that are the issue get far better fuel economy than they are rated for, so in a way they did polute less than what they could of if they got at or below the EPA mpg rating.

Five now that its big news and has effected 11 million cars across the globe the European regulatory body will see how bad it is and make a fine for VW and may force then to stop selling turbo diesels as well he'll they may even put a fine per car per day. But VW has messed I p big time.

Switzerland has frozen any VW diesel sales and lots of American dealerships are the same way. They're loosing about half of their car sales in the US and Europe due to this. Also their stocks have fallen 30%.

I just love the people over on the VW forum (which is useless btw) defending VW. "US emissions are too strict anyway, its crap" "still buy vw over american garbage" I love that one my response was at least america has legal Diesal engines
and my personal favorite "who cares"

i think its a good time to invest honestly, they will recover. they are one of those too big to fail companies.

Motor Trend has the best info on this stuff and many other things. A few days ago I woke up and saw this on the motor trend app and had to send it to Bill lol. I always told people that VW was up to something fishy and BOOM there it was lol.

The emissions restrictions are crap anyway and the reason why car prices keep skyrocketing.

I think this whole situation is funny. Cheat the system, so you can get more sales, now their caught and I will still think of vw the same, ****ty imported car.

That being said, I will never buy anything but american, and GM would be my go to, i would have to be hard pressed, and forced to buy a ford product.

I should re-say that, I would buy a honda, but thats if all other options are pressed over. I actually think i would get a honda over ford.

Absolutely a good time to invest.

I don't believe in "to big to fail". The Big Three and the big banks proved that a few years ago. They all needed a bailout to not go under. I don't think that this will cause VW to go under, that would be unrealistic, but they will be hurting for cash with the immediate cut in sales and the huge costs this is going to bring them not to mention the fines.

You're still young. Your tastes will improve. The only thing American I would buy any more would either be a full size truck.

VW's are actually pretty good cars, especially the diesels. I have a friend that has a really old VW Bug, I cannot recall the year, but it has over 1 million miles on it. Last time I saw it he had it tore completely apart to rebuild/replace things. Body was still solid.
As much as I am a fan of GM they are falling behind Ford, Focus > Cruze, Taurus > Impala, Mustang > Camaro. GM is still leaps and bounds ahead of Chrysler though, Chrysler needs to just throw in the towel and focus all their efforts on the Ram trucks and Jeep. Everything else they make is total garbage and has been since the early 70s.

I have the gas turbo jetty 15, it's a rattle trap sure, but it's the only car in the class I fit in, gets 35+ mpg, is tunable, and has a sub, 8 0 to 60. Quality isn't great but I like my car, I don't think I'd go back though. Probably Buy, A gm, OR Hyundai. For the warranty

so true so true. As i have aged i still love them 70 pontiacs but i would buy a tesla for 2 reasons 1 it supports local US jobs. and 2 it super fast car up tell it hits 80.

im not a tree huger by any means i just love tech and figuring out how the newest thing works. its weird tho as to do age your tastes change on everything. then when you look back 20 years you go wtf was wrong with me why did i ware that lol.
