voltage boost question

I was looking on zzperformance and they have a voltage mod listed, all you do is add a 1 amp diode to the orange wire of the alt., my question is, what voltage should the diode be? I've gone to radio shack and they ask me what voltage and i'm not sure. My guess would be as close to 12v as I can get, right? Thanks
