Valve cover grommet removal-3100 engine

Hey guys, I have a 2001 GP w/ a 3100 engine. How do you replace the grommet's on the valve covers? My old grommet's have a metal cone in the center of the rubber grommet. The VC bolt will only come out a certain distance then the metal cone stops it from coming out. How do you get the metal cone out?
