Value of GTP Comp G running vs non running

Hello gentlemen,

I recently bought a GTP Comp G that needs a little work. It overheats rather quickly, and haven't had the chance to investigate thermostat or head gasket. I know if its a head gasket/head issue, its leaking into the exhaust and not the oil because the oil is clean. Car has been sitting up awhile, so could just be a stuck thermostat.

My question is about value. Lets assume the worst and it needs the head gaskets replaced, or even go as far as the motor replaced. What is the value today for a 2004 Comp G running vs non running? I know the cars are getting harder to find, so its worth doing something with. Just not sure if I should fix it to sell, or sell it as it is.

All opinions are welcomed. Thanks guys!

I'd bet money on the failure of the lower intake before a head gasket. Too many people get the diag wrong and say head gasket, the lower intake gasket failure is 10x more common.

It's a $1,000 car not running and maybe 3-4k running depending on where you live and mileage. Maybe 5k if it's really nice.

X2 on intake manifold gaskets. I haven't been around as long as 5fingerdeathpunch and don't know as much as he, but ive seen a few times where the intake manifold gaskets failed and people thought it was a head gasket. it takes me a few hours to change those gaskets because I'm slow, but I know of several people that can have the whole thing done in 30 minutes.

99% of the time the head gasket diagnolsis is wrong and it's the LIM gaskets...even so called mechanics seem to have a hard time with this one

Wow, I really appreciate the advice. Do you guys just buy them at your local Autozone, or is there a better version you buy from an aftermarket vendor?

rockauto, the magnum lower intake gasket kits comes with the most extra parts and is the same upgraded metal gaskets. its like 42 shipped with a 5% off code.

that being said, the supercharged engines don't suffer the same fate as the na engines upper intake failing and eating coolant.

in your case before you spend money, pull the plugs, crank the engine over, if coolant comes out its likely a head gasket, if nothing comes out, do a compression test. if theres a bad head gasket this test will tell you.
