using XM radio 2004 Grand Prix? (not equipped)

Wanted

New member
Hi, I have a 2004 Grand Prix with a head unit that looks like this http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/att...ll-help-04-grand-prix-grand-prix-interior.jpg with (minus the cassette tape), it is not equipped with the XM radio (monsoon) or whatever. I followed this guide http://www.grandprixforums.net/how-add-line-input-jack-04-xm-21849.html successfully. The head unit still had all the wires and pins that the one with XM radio equipped had (on the back of the unit). My question is if any knows how to access the XM radio mode on the one I have that isn't equipped? Normally you just push band and change it to XM1 or XM2 but this one doesn't have it.

The Pontiac and XM help lines are closed until 8am tomorrow, and the car is leaving tomorrow morning from Houston to San Antonio. So it would really be good if you know or know anyone who does know to help me before then, if not, I'd still like to know so I can do it later on or help others who need to know too.

Thanks for your time.

i don't know if you have a aux button but that would switch the sound to the xm unit, or you could just go the with the fm frequency transmitter, but they are not as clear sounding or as loud compared to the direct hook up.

For the headunit to give you the xm option it has to see the xm reciever on the data circuit. If you add one then you will have it available and the inputs for it will be active. Hope this helps.

I only left the ground connected to the car, the other two wires only run to the jack. You think maybe if I bought a different jack that has in and out on it and hooked it back up to flow through it it would pick it up?

Ok so today I finally found the right jack with the 5 pins and hooked it up.

Here's the thing though, it didn't work.

It has to be because I was confused about the XM/Radio side.

Radio side = Between the Jack<->Head Unit?

XM side = Between the Jack <-> Wires that go back up into the bundle with the rest of the wires deep into the car?

In order to add factory XM or Sirius Radio to your car your radio must have the Band button, if it doesn't than you cannot add it. Here is what you need for Sirius radio hookup

SIRIUS/XM SIR-GM1 (sirgm1) SIRIUS Tuner, Antenna and Adaptor for

If you have the Band button.

You see I have a band button, and I hooked up everything like in the tutorial but when I push the band button it doesn't take me to XM or anything, just to like AM, FM1, FM2. Do I need the sirius tuner even if I just want to add my own audio jack for an ipod?
