I understand Police can be underpaid and underappreciated but some also can be real pr*cks in my experience and this post didn't do much to help your case. Getting off on confrontation is pretty sick imo. Maybe your experience with UPS is karma biting you in the a$$? I'm sure the people you pull over and make cry don't appreciate you using your authority in such an aggressive manor.
 
See...and I've pretty much had only good experiences with cops. Ok.. one or two, but that was simply a matter of differing opinions. Like me going through a yellow at 1/4 throttle and a crapload of blower whine to him was me making an illegal turn with "healthy amount of throttle". If you step back.. you can laugh and say.. yeah he had a point.
 
I'm off to Trooper School in April and what you guys don't know is that its better to get a point across to a driver than for you to let them off easy and have to Scoop them off the road because they continued to be an idiot. As for using authority in an aggressive manner... that is a way to imprint what you did wrong in your head. Your remember all the times you got busted and yet forget the ones that let you go?!? I spent 4 years dealing with my Sargent Major and boy do I remember all that I screwed up. As for Deadwood and Classy sorry about the issues with UPS, everything I've had shipped from them VIA someone else's preference its come back to me fvcked up so I just don't even give them my business, but if someone else sends it to me and its messed up I don't sign for it just tell them send to HUB and they will have to replace what was damaged
 
You know in SERE Training we used to say where does physical discomfort end and pain begin. You need to know where getting your point across ends and mistreatment begins.
 


Bill remember the time i was coming to your house and was late cus i got pulled over? The cop said i was following him to closely. I was 2 car lengths behind him doing 35 in a 45 or some **** and he got out of his car screaming at me. I asked him, " isnt the law 2 car lengths?". He kept screaming and asked my girlfriend if i was always this much of a smartass. Then he said forget it and started going back to his car and i was kind of laughing cus he was acting like a 2 year old. He came back to the car and said you think this is funny give me your license and registration. I said why? He says im going to give you a ticket. I said but i didnt break the law. He says im going to show you. The ticket was 35 bucks or something for tailgating an emergency vehicle. The thing that sucks is i wasnt at fault and purposely hit record on my phone to catch it all but somehow when i put my phone down it stopped recording and i didnt catch any of it. Needless to say he was having a bad day and had to take it out on someone.
 
2 cars lengths is WAY TOO close at any speed but 0 mph.

I remember the driver's manual stating 4 seconds. Following the manual that means at 35 you should be about 200 feet behind, or about 12 car lengths.

35 mph is 51 feet per second. 2 cars lengths is only about 24 feet. It takes .5 second to react to brake lights in front of you. If you are following at only 2 car lengths at 35 mph and the person in front of you has to make an emergency stop you are going to rear end them.
 
On the UPS breaking things rant, I can add to that one. Get this. I work in telecom and one of our customers is UPS (we installed a bunch of PBX's at their locations). The ones we installed were from closed down sites so they were reusing their OWN parts most of the time. We were flown to each location and were to deinstall and take everything to a UPS store to have it properly packed and shipped back to our office. Of course all was insured.

Fast forward a week or so and all of the gateways start showing up at our lab so we can reconfig them. Out of all the equipment there was around $28,000 in damages. I mean they bent steel carriers, broke circuit packs, you name it. Of course our company put in a claim for the damages and in the end they told us to pound sand and simply stated "improper packing".... So we ate the cost to replace all that equipment to keep the installs on-time and make the customer (who is UPS) happy.

So, the mindbending end was that equipment OWNED, packed, shipped all by the same company got so damaged that our company ate the replacement cost due to the claim denial. Explain how in the f*$k that happens, lol.... I'm still not sure how that worked. We managed to get some of that back, but still... This is the same claim BS that I had to deal with when they destroyed my brand new 03 Cobra radiator which they also denied. Nothing like paying $350 for a rad just to have it all beat to piss and unuseable.
 
I've literally shipped over 30,000 packages with UPS and I have never had one damage claim. I have only ever had to make one claim when I worked at the place and the only reason that claim needed to be made was because the guy who shipped it was a complete dumbass.

FedEx on the other hand I have maybe shipped with 100 times. I have had to make at least 5 claims with them.
 
I think you guys are misunderstanding my statement here... It seems as if things are one extreme or the other on here, and that's just not the case. There is a grey area. I will NOT approach a car with an asshole attitude for something that at the end of the day is a traffic cite. I get the attitude when someone endangers someone else, or myself (That p!sses me off), or gets an attitude with me. I do NOT get paid enough to get hurt. I am actually very nice to the people I stop or deal with until they give me reason not to be. I do not take my job for granted, but I also do not take it too seriously either. I actually tend to joke with more people than not. The ones that cry are usually already crying before I even get up to the car because they got pulled over and are scared sh!tless.

Ginseng - I'm not sure about the laws where you live, but the rule of thumb for us here (and yes we can cite for anything less) is a car length per 10MPH. I'm not saying it's commonly used, and it generally will NOT be used as a stand alone charge, but we can do so. It's kind of a chickensh!t charge if you ask me.

ntreftz - Good luck in the academy, and you have extremely valid points.

Update on the UPS situation, Boycott in full effect, and as of right now, they have the package, and headlight "for inspection." We shall see. On a side note, I do want to add that Classy is keeping it classy through all of this. The guy has a hell of a business ethic, and is doing everything possible to make this right. If anyone was, is, or has considered getting retro's, I HIGHLY recommend him. Good prices, and he backs his sh!t.

Soooooo the good news, I finally got 'the man' to pay out!! Thanks to Classy's help, and due diligence, they finally buckled, and I got the claim paid... 5 weeks later... Headlights shipped back to Classy via FedEx, along with half the prize winnings (it was the gentlemanly thing to do) since he helped fight the good fight! Now I just gotta wait for my lights to come home!!! I've said it before, and I will say it again... If you want retrofits, go with this guy. You're a fool if you don't. Can't rave enough about his product, or the support he offers. Thanks again D!
