And I'm mad.

How did I do? First time posting in rant thread. Seriously though, it was just a single piece of friggin' tape and they wanted 50 cents. I've dropped off lots of packages and never been charged. Gave him a dollar and told him to keep the change. Yeah, showed him!

And to think I was at the post office the other day sending out boxes. When I was done , I waited in line to see if my letter needed 1 or 2 stamps.
she was like it only needs 1 stamp sweetie and put 1 stamp on it for me and put it in the bin. No charge ;)

and UPS is charging you for tape?!

This world is backwards haha

Would you rather get charged for a piece of tape or have the package show up empty?

Tape isn't free. Next time tape it yourself.

Either way its still a gamble if it shows up empty or not, isn't it?

Besides, these are privately owned stores, each one is able to decide how they will treat their own customers. Charge me for tape I damn sure ain't gonna go back and purchase any of their other products.

Edit: I have no problem paying for services. When I am paying 20 bucks to ship a package, and you charge me 50 cents for 1cent of tape, then I give you a dollar and post on gpf rant forums! That's how I roll. Yup.

It's a hit or miss. Some people take there job way to serious and are a stickler for rules. 9/10 I won't get charged for a simple piece of extra tape that I need but that one time I was charged and instead I said nope and walked next door to the dollar store bought a roll of tape for $1 then went back and put it on. Keep a roll in your glovebox :)

So you are mad that you had to pay for something that isn't free? What will you complain about next? That you had to pay for a candy bar at the gas station?

Take responsibility for your own actions, or inactions in this case.

Also, I've shipped literally over 30,000 packages with UPS over the years and have had very few issues with any packages being damaged, so I don't see the gamble.

Only problem I ever had with UPS is they couldn't find my house, even though it has been there for 50+ years...........

People are just getting spoiled by the USPS.

So, according to you, next time I walk in the store I shouldn't be surprised if I get charged for the HVAC benefits. Or the ink in their ballpoint pen. Or the electricity used for their digital scales? What you see as acceptable misc charges, I see as an unawareness of customer care. When I work on customer cars, I don't charge for masking tape and laundry fees when I clean my rags. Its called OVERHEAD and should be factored into your primary sales prices! Its not UPS shipping and tape sales, charge for the damn shipping and factor in a roll of tape a month you greedy bastards!

How am I doing for my first rant? :)

You are paying for the HVAC and electricity in their cost of goods.

UPS has their shipping charge. They don't factor in the cost of tape because 99% of people are smart enough to put their own tape on the box and have it ready to ship.

Actually I am pretty sure they do.

Considering I've NEVER been charged for a piece of tape by any other carrier, I'd say you are wrong. Sure, TECHNICALLY they can, you can charge for any damn thing you want...TECHNICALLY... but you also risk being labeled a douche if you charge absurd amounts for small details. Today, they took that risk and will forever be known as douchebags in my book.

If I had a nickle for every time I forgot to tape a box and never got charged for tape, I could have bought my own roll of tape.

The point was , it's odd to charge for a piece of tape... Would I be mad as hell? Nah. But I wouldn't go back there

Considering that you should have taped the box yourself, the only person you have to blame is yourself.

I actually had at least 2 rolls of tape in my truck. I actually went back to my truck to get two quarters, remembered the tape but decided to just give them a dollar. I don't ***** about things like this. They got 50 cents from me in a technicality. I like to make points silently if I can. He over charged me by about 49 cents. I handed him a buck and said keep the change. If the guy had any sense he would see my point...

Can YOU see my point? :)

^ even better. PAying extra for the sauces. Some places toss em in for free , others give you just 1 or 2 and charge per sauce.

Lmao they sure are stingy with their sauces. Buy a 10 piece and they give just two sauces.. Now I can't double dip da fuq

You have no point, because you are in the wrong. You didn't have the package prepared and got charged for it.

You think you made a silent point, but all the guy sees is he got 50 cent tip.

Implying that OP is dumb / has feelings of entitlement is just absurd. It's perfectly reasonable to believe that 1 small strip of tape is part of good customer service... especially when their competitors are doing it.

It's your right as a business to stiff someone on a piece of tape, but unhappy customers are going to share their experience. Fact of life.
