upholstering the roof/ceiling with vynil

Hey guys, after a failed attempt with my material sagging and hanging off my ceiling, I'm wondering what is the best kind of glue to use. Vinil is much heavier than cloth so the 3m spray on glue I bought was worthless, then I tried using goop, which comes in a tube and that also didn't stick.
Anyone have any suggestions?
