Seein as how I decided to rattle can my new body parts since it'll be a lil cheaper and I'm pretty good with a spray can. I'm havin a hard time findin a mass quanity of GM bright white in duplicolor. I came across the other brand plastikote on amazon and its a lil cheaper. Anyone ever use this stuff and am I able to throw a regular clearcoat over it without it lookin like crap?

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

nope. plastidip is a spray on coating and is a removable coating. you can add something to it to make it glossy so it will shine.

people have done the whole car, or just wheels.

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

So u know the brand I'm talking about then...in the description I didn't say anything about it being like a plastidip material so I wondered if they were the same or not. Well I guess I'm just on the hunt for the duplicolor exact match brand....

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

if your looking for the same finish as you started with, keep using the same product.

sounds like its the same spray on peel off later plastidip type stuff, theres a few brands out now.

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

I have only started painting with the metallic black seein as how I ws able to find a deal on a 6 pack of those
. I havnt bought the bright white paint yet so I was curious about that plastikote brand paint

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

Its made by Valspar. I have never used it for a car but I painted some rot iron chairs with it. It worked OK for that. There would probably be a slight difference in color between the brands.

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

How long ago was that and how many cans did It take for the bumper? Is the paint holding up and was it a good match?

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

paint was a match, came out good. 3 small cans per bumper, one large can of clear.

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

Damn that's it?. I figured I would of needed way more than that....oreillys just called me back n r cutting me a deal on 12 cans for 88$ of GM duplicolor bright white so ill pick that up tommorow. I guess whatever I have left over I can use on my engine bay or hood scoop if I decide to go with one

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

you'll get about one coat per can. a bit more maybe. i did light coats with a 50% over lap of the spray pattern with each pass. painted the bumpers on a tall saw horse.

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

Ok nevermind I called them back n did 9 cans bright white, 3 cans of black metallic

Re: plastikote paint?? any good or what...

Plastikote is as good as the other name brand paints. I always have a few cans of their T1 satin black; I put that sh!t on everything! LOL

Here is their wheel paint.....

That is two coats of paint, that's it. The wheels are gone now, but the paint did fade a little over the 2 years that I used them (winter tires).
