(UPDATE 22Aug08) - Pretty sure I'm overheating?

I have a 180* thermostat in and it seems like my car remains at a normal temp until I accelerate. I'm not just talking crazy acceleration either, any acceleration the temp goes up and will only come back down if I have a long coast. It seems like when I accel the temp just keeps getting higher and higher. If I drive a constant speed the temp will not increase and like I said will go lower if I have a long time to coast. The temp will pass 210* on my gauge and I can feel the upper hose bubbling at idle or stops once the temp has gotten that high.

I have changed the thermo and all the hoses. The outside temps have been over 100* , anywhere in between 100-112* for 14 straight days now.

Am I crazy or is there something wrong here?

First thing, I would make sure that the coolant system is bleed of all the air and the coolant is filled to the top in of the radiator.

Also, did you change the radiator cap? If this is bad, your car can overheat.

So check those two things first.

Alright I took it in to the shop and they hooked up the tech 2 and told me that it looks like the radiator has a blockage. Well, I hope this is true and it also kinda plays into my wanting to upgrade to the bigger 1 3/8" thick radiator. So when I get it put in I will update again.

Thanks Zef, the only things I haven't changed to date is the radiator and the w-pump.

I see a bigger radiator and Meziere pump in your future... :th_king-evil:

Well got the bigger radiator ordered. now next up are the upper and lower air deflctors and 99-03 fan assembly.

Anybody got a part number for the fan assembly from a 99-03 GP GTP?

Well I got the new bigger radiator and 99^ fans installed. But the same thing happens just not as bad.

If I accelerate there is a noticeable increase in temp. I hooked up the scanner and on a night where the ambient temp is 88* my car will run anywhere from 180* to 185*. But like I said tho if I accelerate I can see temps of 195*. 15* over the 180* thermostat that I have installed. Any ideas on what the deal is.

I have changed the radiator, hoses, thermo and rad cap. I also have made sure that the system is completely bled of air.

What temp do your fans turn on?
Your T stat doesn't dictate the engine temp if the fans don't turn on accordingly.

Fan 1 is set to turn on at 190 and shuts off at 189. (this is stock)

Fan 2 is set to turn on at 192 and shuts off at 190. (this is stock)

I did think of these but its hot here in Texas so I have the A/C on, which means that the fans are on all the time anyway.

And this is a new issue say since the begining of July. It does it even at night where the temps get back down to about 80*

Based on this tho tell me what you think...thanks

Bypass it and Test...... Also, hows the temp sensor, It is very close to the exhaust and if there is a partial short/ corrosion you may have skewed readings, do you have access to a infrared temp gun, to check the temps and see if it is a accurate..........

Water pump, I've seen em strip the fins and just be a spinning plate, if it isn't too expensive and above tests show it is an actual prob I would go there next....
-if you could some how temporarily install a clear rad hose you could see if you are getting flow??

Hey Blue, tell me more about this water pump issue, is it common in our engines?? That's the only thing that hasn't been changed.
