Turbo

Hi everyone,
I have a 2005 Grandprix that I am looking to put a turbo in. I am wondering if a turbo can be pulled off an older car at the junkyard and retooled to work with my car to save some money? And if this is possible any ideas on what kind of turbo I would be looking for (this is all new to me but I do understand fully how they work)

Also I was wondering about megasquirt, if anyone has had any experience with that. One of my former teachers is interested in it and he is very good with cars and has several he races and is very interested by the systems so I am wondering how much a setup with that would be.
Thanks

Ah, I was looking for a cheap alternative to buying a full kit and spending a few thousand on it(poor college student who wants power)

youre best off buying a nice turbo, then making all the piping on your own. if you can do that then by all means go for it.

nothing from the 3.1 turbo motor will be a good starting ground for you.

is there any certain turbo you would recommend that is inexpensive yet still puts out a decent amount of hp?

I am not really sure what I want out of the car i guess. I don't race for money or anything I would just like more hp, to be honest I don't even know what a modest gain would be because I know some people get huge gains from them. If I am thinking right would 75-100hp be a decent gain or is that an extreme gain that will cost me?

Rottman- I have heard those electric turbos are a waste of money and can in some cases decrease hp.

dont make me come over there and slap you.

you can easily make 150+ whp more with a turbo setup. usually a modest turbo setup will run mid 12s in the 350 whp range. you dont need a turbo setup for your goals. if youre looking for that look at the sticky in the N/A section about a top swap, which will get you the m90 setup of the supercharged motor.

I did look at getting a super as well but isn't it cheaper, more fun, more hp, and better efficiency to get the tubo?

Yes, but the 3.8's also came with the supercharger so it is easier to find inexpensive s/c setups or top swaps.

You would be better off looking at the Z3 kit from zzperformance and doing that piping or configuration. That is probably the most effective but cheapest piping design you can make, with open dump wastegate. You don't want to cheap out on a wastegate whatever you do. Then after that your goin to want to get your car tuned. The PT61, BW 56mm, 62-1 are all proven turbos but there are many others out there that would work, any bigger and you might have some lag. The hardest thing to do is make a downpipe for it once you have a spot for the turbo, to get the downpipe under the tb and between the brake booster and engine is going to be a pita.

ahh, ic..what could I expect for a HP return on a sc? and it would be a plus for noise factor...or is it a quite one?

I read idealy it will be 50% increase but on average it is 30-40%? So with the base 200hp it could put me up around 260-280?
