turbo cam vs rockers ???

grandprix5

ok so i have a 2005 grand prix turbo spec/ turbonetics 60-1 turbo , 42.5 injectors, intercooled, my goal its just hit the 12's i dont want anything else as long its a 12.99 that works for me. what would work better a cam or rockers ?? and what rockers are better and what ca is better ?? and also need info about the prices ? if i go with the rockers il be putting rockers and the HV3 and if i put a cam i just going with a cam ! what do you guys think works better fr me ?

You are still going to need valve springs if opting for a cam. If you get the ST1 from ZZP it requires at minimum 90lb springs. And if you have over 75K it's recommended to get a new timing chain with a cam swap. If going with the ST3, ST4, or ST5 then its recommend to use 130lb springs. Which means you are going to need/want a double roller timing chain. And if you get that you are going to need a machined cover. Then a tune for those as well. So thus the money pit ensues.

If you are just looking for high 12's then 1.9 rockers will get the job done.

yeah i dont want anything big i just want to hit the 12,s i think im just going with the rockers it seems lets trouble and less money for my goal... everything was going really good til yesterday my turbonetics turbo started to sound wird i pulled out the turbo and found out that the turbine wheel its really damage thats whay i had a problem creating boost fast so i just send an email to importevolution the guys who sold it to me and said it has warranty and their going to rebuild it !

Honestly, I have always seen the most power gains in turbo cars from JUST upgrading the springs.

If you do rockers, or a cam, expect to do a large spring upgrade... I would probalby just suggest to you to keep stock rockers, and put on some yellow/blue LS6 springs. The rockers would be a decent upgrade, but I can still run 17-18psi of boost on stock rockers as easily as I could with 1.9 modded rockers. The springs really helped out things no matter what rockers i had on.

darkhorizon thats a lot of help you thing guy i can run a high 12's with just my turbo intercooled? without adding rockers or cam ??

cool so i think im just going to stay with out rocker and with out cam and just upgrade the springs like horizon said and im going to take her to the track next month and see if i hit the 12' that i wanted

I ran 11.2 in my fiero on stock springs.... 11.5 on 93 octane on a conservitive tune... The tanker truck wbodies do struggle to run as fast as my fiero does... but 12s should be plenty easy.

Yup, that is the right part #.

Also, the yellow colored springs have since been discontinued and you will only get blue springs. Just a side note.

Don't expect to run the same time as him though. A Fiero has a rear mount engine, "RWD", and is much lighter than a GP. Comparing a fiero(with a 3800) to a GP is like comparing apples to oranges.

I wouldnt go so fast there... Mod for mod fieros struggle to run much more than a second faster than wbodies... I dont see any reason why the average wbody with a turbo kit bolted on cant run than 12.2-12.4 if my fiero is running 11.2-11.4.

yes i understand i never though of that like i said i just want high 12's thats all :) im happy with 12.999 and when i upgrade to the ls6 spring what do i need ?? new retainers ?? new pedestals or what ?
