Im looking for some digrams that ive recently seen of the way they routed all the vacuum tubing to everything. Anybody have a link to that thread that knows what im talking about? Im going to be running an AEM boost gauge with that, where would that tee into as well?
It was mentioned to me to make sure im not boosting the crankcase, exactly how do i know if i am or not?

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

Vacuums go as so:

BOV- any vacuum behind the TB/ vent to atmosphere?
Wastegate- vacuum on turbo housing
Boost Gauge- anywhere on the IC piping

"boosting the crankcase" is dealt with through valve cover breathers/ pcv breathers.

idk if im missing something, im tired.:th_nervous:

correct

Wastegate- vacuum on turbo housing
wrong, goes on the engine vacuum.

Boost Gauge- anywhere on the IC piping

Wrong again, engine vacuum

"boosting the crankcase" is dealt with through valve cover breathers/ pcv breathers.

Wrong again, on L36/L67 motors, there is a fresh air draw in the throttle body that has to be blocked, on L26 intakes, the fresh air draw is on the top of the intake, and can be capped or left open.

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

darkhorizon, what exactly did u do or i should say use to completely block off pcv on the uim?

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

You gonna put a blanket on that snail to help keep temps under the hood down ? Also as close as your radiator line is going to be to that turbo and exhaust it may not hurt to go braided on the rad lines because i could see that wearing or melting the rubber of the hose. Just my $0.02.

PS Your setup looks very nice! I wish I would have went this route from the beginning.

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

very nice upgrades compared to my Z7 kit. zzp did great with the v bands. you should have wrapped up the downpipe with heat wrap. as for the turbo blanket i bought mine from ptpturboblankets. i put a spark plug bootie over the coolant temp sensor because its so close to the crossover.

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

I do plan to buy a turbo blanket for it. The upper radiator hose will be fine, I'm more so worried about the coolant temp sensor like mention above and the tranny harness under the turbo.

It was mentioned to me by matt to not wrap the downpipe and crossover due to possible cracking.

Thanks for the complements on the setup.

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

Gonna be running 85 with that? IF so BADAZZ... Either way nice man, good luck, like ryno said.. I got a couple g's into my car I could of saved some more and got a turbo setup.

Good luck with build

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

Badass setup you've got going there so far man. I'm looking into going turbo instead of swapping an l67. Lookin forward to the end result and hearing your feedback.

nipple on the turbo housing isnt engine vacuum..? IC piping isnt vacuum?
My SRT4 has been running the vacs like that for years and everything works fine.

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

put the spark plug booty on the coolant sensor. the turbo blanket will protect the trans harness because it wraps around the whole side of the turbo. why would stainless steel crack? my downpipe is wrapped up nice. too much heat especially near the master and the throttle body

No, and the turbo housing is a lousy place to get boost reference from in my experience.

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

it sucks? I get turbulence?

I tried it on my HX35 and it would not make less than 17psi, I moved it to the motor side and it made 13. In theory, it should make less boost sourced at the turbo, but something else decided against that.

Simply put, nobody in the 3800 turbo world puts their wg reference there. I run my nitrous switch on that port, but thats it.

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

Dude you have to let me check out your setup some time. Its nice to know that there are other GP owners from The Box on here.

Re: Turbo Build "Pics" and a few questions

hahaha. Tha "Box". Shoot me a PM man. Im off tomorrow so we could meet up and ill let u check it out.

To all the comments, Thank you. Finally took the leap. Wish i woulda done this quite awhile ago.

Went ahead and wrapped all the pipes with header wrap and put a spark plug boot on the coolant temp sensor. Gonna be ordering my turbo timer and turbo blanket later on this week. And will be building a vac block throughout this week as well. more pics coming soon.
