Tuner purchase confusion

So is the u7191 tuner the correct predator tuner to buy? Will it firm up the shifts on my 06 gxp? I have researched this but not a lot of info on this tuner these days.
 


If want to waste your money, yes buy that programmer.

I googled it and it says you can't even buy that unit, not even on summit racing.


The only tuners to consider buying a HP Tuners or EFI live. Those are the only 2 real tuners that can actually tune the vehicle to your desired needs. Anything else is just a "flash programmer" that has basic built in calibrations and that's not the way to tune a LS V8.

After owning HP Tuners for 5+ years, it is a superior product compared to Edge/HyperTech, Diablo.

HP Tuners or EFI Live are real tuning software that can change any parameter inside the computer to fully tune the vehicle. That was my suggestion if want to fully optimize the engine/transmission tuning.

Before I break down and buy range technology, I have to ask. I've got a guy locally that has HP tuners but he doesn't know much about how to use it. Any way you could tell what I'd need to do to use his HP tuner software? He bought it for his truck. Would I need to buy anything else but vehicle credits? Provided I knew what I was doing in the software. I am pretty software savvy.

I simply want to disable dod and firm up shifts on trans to hopefully get more life out of it. Is it worth buying HP tuner credits or just buy the range device?
I won't be doing performance mods. Most if not all mods will be longevity mods since it's got 160k on it. Thanks for the help!
 


just the hp tuners hardware/software loaded on the laptop and credit to unlock the particular VIN to license and from there start tuning. if al you're doing is deleting the DOD function and firming up the shifts, just borrow it and if you need to ask and borrow it again lol.
 
Yup, you'd just need to install the software onto your laptop or use his laptop if it's already installed. Make sure you are using the most up to date 3.6 software from his customer page on HP Tuners to prevent any issues.

Then buy 2 GM credits or if he already has GM credits, give him $100 for the credits and read/license your VIN/file. Then it's as simple as finding the DoD/AFM enable/disable drop down and setting it to disable and do whatever else you want.
 


you can download sample tunes from other people found on the hp tuners bin repository and use it as a comparison to get an idea on how much to increase it by. just make sure to find one that matches your car's engine/trans. cant recall the link to it but if you go on ls1tech forum and go under their pcm and tuning section theres a sticky to get there.
