Trying To Cool Intake Temps

So the more I've been around this community, the more I'm learning that some of the best mods address cooling the intake temps. I don't have the money to intercool, and am wanting to swap to E85 in the future. But for now, I have a Hot air intake, which I figure is worse than the stock air box in regards to intake temps, but I wanted to hear the blower. So a few days ago I decided to unscrew the driver side fog light. My thoughts are that at least some of the air will make its way into the engine bay. Prior to doing this, I ran the car, popped the hood, and put my hand on the air filter. It was very hot. After opening up the fog light area, running the car, then touching the filter, it is now cooler (at least I believe it is).

Just seeing if anyone else has tried this, and if they have noticed any similar results. I plan on making some tubing to try and direct the air into the engine bay to see if that helps further. In my mind, by doing this, I am creating a hybrid HAI/FWI.

What are your all's thoughts?

I have a hard time believing the oem intake makes much difference. even the hot air intake that you think runs hotter really doesn't. I've watched and seen temperatures within 10 degrees of outside ambient with my hot air intake, and really that's pretty typical.

you could pick up a water/methanol injection kit for like 450 new to intercool your car, mine works very well. just run 50/50 water/methanol like the manufacturer suggests and call it good.

The supercharger generates a ton of heat on its own compressing the air. Cooling the intake by a few degrees will help little to none.

Thanks for your all's feedback, and yes Stealthee, I didn't even account for that. I guess you're right - so there's no point in messing with what I have I guess. With that said, I wonder why people mess with FWI - probably thinking the same way I was.

Sgt - Methanol would be cool, how hard is it to install? I can count to 10, but I'm not mechanic haha. Also, any benefit to going Methanol when I plan on going E85?

The be all end all would be two things that are hysterically next to impossible to do.

One: Route the exhaust in a long tube style with B pipe or something of the like from a FWD DOHC import or current updated exhaust setup. With the friggen crossover running right under the throttle body basically after one or two passes it's going to be heat soak city and your intake temps are straight garbage before it even gets me to point #2.

Dos: The M90. It's literally one of the worst power adders efficiency wise in a long time of automotive engineering. You could try to cool the temps with an intercooler. Obviously. OR, try to beat the system and cool the air post blower with a meth system tapped into the LIM. E85 really will help keep the cylinder temps down.

i got a fsic. blower still gets hot as hell in the summer time. you could fry a egg on it after a track pass. i added meth this past spring and it keeps the blower temps down to warm. after a pass at the track i was able to lay my hand on it, and leave it there like nothing.

same goes for when i was tuning it, did like 3 pulls in a row and the blower was only warm, it was also 90 degrees out. :th_thumbsup-wink: i also added 4 degrees wot timing and dropped from a 3.2 to a 2.8 like nothing. nice power adder.

I run both E85 and methanol/water injection. the E85 works well, but doesn't cool the air temperature of the supercharger as well as I wanted. you do need a tuner to maximize the effects of the water/methanol injection, and if you want to run E85 you will need a tuner for that as well. I recommend HP Tuners, but DHP also has it's advantages. I started out tuning with a DHP and it was good, but then I sold it and switched to HP Tuners, I regret selling the DHP, but not to the point that I will buy another.
