trunck rattles from subs



Build a wall to block the most of the vibrations from reaching the trunk lid. Total cost, maybe $15

Stopping trunk lid rattle can be somewhat of a pain. Your best bet is going to be adding mass, which would by using a product such as Audio Technix Sound Deadener - Better than Dynamat - Home offers. Using great stuff in the gaps between the braces and trunk panel itself helps as well, but I haven't noticed a lot of room to do that in my car. In all honesty, it's going to rattle (edit: It's going to flex) on low notes, assuming you have a somewhat potent setup. Mine actually makes a strange squeaking sound on the lowest ones lol. Oh... tighten your spoiler bolts too. Get in the habit of checking those every other week or so. Helps a ton. It's fun when your whole back end moves as much as the trunk does :)

Theres really no write up needed. I just made a stencil out of cardboard and trimmed the MDF to match. The main purpose behind it was to hide the subs. But it turned out to be quite a rattle blocker.
 
That wall you made. Your subs are still facing out? I was thinking of doing that but maybe facing my subs in and possibly adding a port hole. I have a non ported box for my 15's and I'm thinking of new ideas. Any help?
 


2 15's ported is not going to fit behind that wall... not in any proper airspace. In fact, you won't be fitting 2 ported 15s in a 97-03 trunk in proper airspace without building in the trunk.
 
So what would you guys suggest I do? I have those two infinity 15s and a kenwood 12 that I had for a few weeks in the car. I'm all for building a custom box. Would one 15 in a custom ported box be my best bet?
