Trojanone1's 1999 Grand Prix SE

Hi everyone,

I have been a member for a couple months now, but am now just making a members ride. I bought this car (my first GP) in October from my aunt's business so it was a company car and, for the most part, well taken care of. Since i got it I had to clean the crap out of it to get rid of the BO and grease smell; it took a few times shampooing the seats and carpet lol. Things I did when i got it was change coolant, mudflaps, replace headlights, replace a couple burnt out brake light bulbs, air filter, PCV valve, transmission fluid and filter changed. My dad and i did our own rocker replacement to the car since it was rusted and I plan on putting on GT/GTP skirts on it to cover our "handiwork". Just last weekend I replaced the plugs and changed oil to Mobil 1. Car cleaned up pretty good and runs good for 120,000 miles.

Here's a pic of the car:

My future plans are, GT/GTP skirts, upgrade audio, de-badge, window tint, taillight tint, and newer GP rims.

Any thoughts/comments appreciated! :D

I am considering it, but Im not sure how much it would cost to find both the front and back bumpers and get them painted.

I'm sure you could salvage some at a junkyard for a decent enough price. Who knows, you could find a set of pre-gen rims and boom, you'd be good to go lol

yup my dad and i like to go to you-pull-it yards. just at one last weekend, in fact, but didnt see any bumpers in decent condition. the actual salvage yard was closed. Are not pre-gen rims wider than my current stock 16 inch rims? the reason i want to stick with stockers is i have pretty much brand new tires and dont want to get rid of them. I'm looking at a set of 16 inch chrome rims off a 2004 GP; waiting for the guy to get different rims himself so he can sell his lol.

Not sure exactly how much wider pre gens are, but I don't think it's a big difference. It's more the offset that's the big difference. They'll sit more flush with the fenders and will look great. They're 16s so you could still use your new tires.

Oh the good ol se bumpers, get rid of them if you plan on keeping it

I almost did a couple times on my old one before I just got a new car

Idk I really don't mind the se front bumper. The gt bumpers look sportier but idk if I wanna spend $150+ on bumper and getting it painted

Well, as promised, I got the rims swapped on my car this afternoon. They look 10x better but realized I need to add paint calipers to my upgrade/to-do list. Comments/opinions welcome as long as they are not "why didn't you upgrade to bigger rims?" Lol jkjk

hey everyone quick question. Since this is my own members' ride thread i do not mind bringing it up if its old. I tried to debadge the car the other day using fishing line and a blow dryer. I successfully got the grand prix off the trunk, but when I tried working on the side pieces i actually took off some paint along with the piece. Ended up putting it back on so it hides it. What did I do wrong?

Pics?? guessing the door could of been repainted and the "grand prix" just being taped off when it was repainted. The paint shouldn't of come off if you were doing it correctly

I used fishing line but no hair dryer. I took some goof off and dripped it along the top of the GTP emblem, then cut some line off of my reel as the goof off "soaked in." Took the line, wrapped a bit around each hand\finger\etc., then started cutting the foam\adhesive behind the emblem itself, dragging the line up and down, over and over again. Then I used a bit of goof off on a rag to help clean off the foam stuff that got left behind. I had some marks left over in the shape of the emblem itself, but when I claybar'd the car they came right off.

Ill have to try the soaking method to see if that helps. Yeah idk the trunk emblem came off easy...

Finally got tint done not too long ago. Chickened out and stayed legal lol. 20% in back and 35% in front. Fresh detail and wax too!
