transmission won't shift automatically

I been having this problem with my 99 gtp that won't shift on drive but can go thru the gears 1-2-3 with no problem of shifting I went to to a shop and they say I need a new tranny which I don't see that right I'm not so good with transmission work so any info would really help thanks
 


You didn't give us much to go on. Please elaborate if you have more details from either the shop or how it's running etc etc.

It is odd that you can shift it by selecting the gears, and it won't take care of itself in drive. Reason for that is the transmission is fully electronic for shifting and shift pressure. Whether you pull it down a gear or leave it in drive..it should be commanding the soleniods in nearly the same way. What happens when you select Drive...does it sit in third?
 
Ok sorry about that when I put it on D that car will accelerate super slow like no power at all, and I go 1 it will accelerate normal that's what im confuse. I notice too it won't shift from 2 to 3 the fluid it's good on the trans
