transmission will occationally not shift back down

Occationally, usually if i put a lot of miles on it in a day, it will all of a sudden shift really early into the next gears. I get a converter lockup code. Then when im at a stop side it doesn't want to shift down unless i put my foot to it or do it manually.

I also notice during regular driving that around 53mph that i hear the rpms kind of surge, really noticiable when you hit resume on the cruize control and it climbs smooth till it gets around there.

Are these common or fixiable problems or should i be looking for a new transmission soon?
 


It sounds like you are getting code P0742. Have you tried the search feature on here? There are quite a few threads about these problems that explain what is going on and also you can find some info on your problem on my info page below in my sig.
