transmission troubles

im new and have a dumb question , will a fwd car still drive if the cv axle isnt locked in? before and after changing the front passenger side i still have a vibration an it sounds like the gears arent meeting right...shifts normal drives normal other than the sound an vibrations...and thats at any speed...any help appreciated

Yes.

If you still have the old shaft, look at it, there will be a dirt/dust/grime line. The new shaft has to go in that far.
