• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

my tranny has been acting funny lately, my check engine light came on with code po742. My car will just skip 2nd go right to third then hit od asap. like a 35 mph. It sounds like its not clutching right, however when i clear the fault code, or restart my engine, the trans is smooth as can be. Any ideas??

First thing to do is get the car warm, park on a level surface, put the car in park, leave the engine running, and check the transmission fluid. It should be at the top of the XXXs. Also, the fluid should be a red color. Not brown or black. Report back.

P0742 is a TCC Stuck ON code and typically happens from a clogged up TCC solenoid but can be a number of other things also. I have info on this on my info page in the link in my sig. Replacing the solenoid often helps the problem BUT debris is the cause more times than not as this solenoid rarely fails on its own so a new solenoid is just going to do the same thing down the road. The trans will definately feel terrible when the code sets. It can be a tricky problem to tackle and the majority of the causes are torque converter slippage or over-pressure problems that can be fixed by upgrading a few parts, but once the damage is done it generally means a new torque converter, valve body, and possibly other parts.

ok so, it's red, and at 162 degrees it goes up to th O in max Operating pressure. Although its pretty bubbley at that point.
