Transmission hard shiffting

Ok, back for another round...I just took my car to have the transmission checked out. The guy is local and told me that the codes where that the pressure was increasing after long drives and that was causing the hard shifting. The pressure was to compensate for slippage while its running, he drove it for a few miles and yes it was hard shiftting. I was wondering if this is the correct diagosis or should i have it sent to another shop...he didnt charge and seemed understanding that a new transmission would be over 2K.... its a 1998 with 115K milage, he told me that it would run for a little while before particals would clog up the filter which i had just replaced...What would be the best option, continue to drive and just wait until it goes out or fix it now with a used or rebuilt? Thanks for any feedback

did he drop the pan? how does he know theres metal in it? id just get the solenoid replaced and call it a day... ive been there and done that.

id just swap out solenoid, if ur mechanically inclined it can be done in a day in ur driveway... its a ***** not doin it on a lift... local trans shop did mine for 250.00 parts and labor... friend of a friend owns the shop though... heard of prices as high as 600 bucks for shops to do it.
