• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

hi all im new and im guessing my transmission is out!!. but i thought i would run it by you pros, cause there is a little bit of a strange twist.

i have a 97 grand prix gtp 2 door coupe, it had ran a service engine light about a couple weeks back and it was a code for a faulty solonoid in the tranny( dont remeber exactly what the code was off hand im at work) and ways basically somtimes it woul just shift kinda snappy/agressive and somtimes it would be super smooth. ive read many has had this issue and they have driven on it for some time so i figured when i get more money ill fix it.

last night i was coming home from fams house and in lower rpms crusin on the highway it started to kinda putter like a car that is misfiring would, and the RPM gauge would kinda be hoping back and fourth quickly from 1.5- 2k untill you give it a little gas and it would smooth out.

the other night i got in it heading home from the gym, and as i left the parking lot i noticed all the sudden the car was just reving as i drove and that the power to the wheels is gone. i turned the car off checked around and got back in started it up and put it in reverse to pull out of the parking spot i coasted into and it engauged i backed out put it in drive and started going, about 5-10 seconds it gives out again leaving me just reving the engine with no power to the wheels. i also when i turn the car back on hear somthing making a noise like somthing is engaging? and then itll drive for a few after started and then will stop again.

im going to go have it looked at cause i love my gp but was hoping anyone might have a hunch or know somthing?
thanks again sry for my spelling :(

how many miles does the car and/or transmission have on them?

Could be as simple as lack of maintenance and the tranny fluid and filter need changed. But could be that the forward band broke and you need a rebuild. If I had to guess, I would say the latter.

But check the fluid level and condition of the fluid first. Should be to the top of the XXXs and a nice transparent pink/red color. Not brown, dark, black, or smelling burnt. That is not good.
